Overlanding Checklist

I guess I'll take the opportunity to add a basic off-road list that I put together here as well. This is somewhat of a group-sourced list and has a lot of good suggestions. Although designed as a list for a day outing or simple weekend trip, it is a good base for some equipment to have in your vehicle and is broken down in stages.

Now I know that these exist: Slip-pin Clevis

As soon as my screw pin items wear out I can buy the slip pin model... :sombrero:

Okay, I am guilty of polluting the thread but I was drawn in by the usefulness of the topic. Starting with the weak looking list at JPFreek

Some items are driven by where you go and the risks you might take. For instance, lockers and a winch as "MINIMUM"?? I would agree that skid plates and a mild lift are needed on most SUVs. For comms I know what a CB radio is but what is "Digital"?? FRS and Amateur/Ham radios were not mentioned. They list having a compass but how about a class on how to use one? Both a hydraulic floor jack and a bottle jack?? Nothing about a spare tire or flat repair was mentioned or including a compressor for airing up tires.

The list from Overland Bound had an interesting point about keeping a journal and I wish that I had the discipline to do so. Another list points out that before you head out be sure that you have completed all needed maintenance as well as performing a walk around of your ride (and probably a "crawl-under too!!). I recall a thread here on the portal of having some sort of bail out bag (BOB) in case you have to suddenly abandon your vehicle. One of the Aussie lists below has a location code for each item so that you know that something is located on the roof rack as opposed to in the trailer or under the back seat. Such a code can help your fellow travelers find things in your rig. Part of a pre-trip checklist might be planning to upgrade to offroad worthy tires or at least avoid terrain that your tires cannot handle.

This thread is 5 years old and a lot of links to lists are no longer valid. Maybe folks can post some checklists that are current and add it to this list. Just copy and paste the updated list into your post:
