Additional information from recent trip. See pics of the tent in the Idaho section about my open invite.
Night 1: Severe thunderstorm, lasted 20-30 minutes with gushing downpour. I didn't expect it and when I got up to check on the kids in their tent, I noticed I didn't plan and put the awning at an angle, I had left it level, when there was a huge puddle that accumulated in the center. I pushed up on it to drain it and attempted to lower one of the polls to get a run off angle. The wind was gusting ALOT. I couldn't guess what the mph was but I would think it was at least 30.
Anyway, I lower the poll, the guy line comes off and that corner of the awning flips down, well that was inconvenient, but it took exactly 3 seconds for me to be soaked to the bone, so I stopped caring about trying to stay dry. Anyway back to the awning, it flips down at the exact time that a lightning cracks directly above us (which was happening about every 20 seconds) and the combination of that scared the bigesus out of the dog and she bolted for under the Jeep, well the problem was her lead was not long enough for her to get there, so she jerked stopped, ran the other direction in the downpour and another lightening, and got her lead wound around and uprooted the other poll and guy wire, so now the whole awning is flapping in the wind, I am soaked, the dog is soaked and frightented, I am holding an aluminum poll in the air, and my wife is in the tent thinking I am going to be electricuted along with everything else within 10 feet; ie: her and the kids.
Speaking of them, they are out like lights and safe and dry in there 3x5 Winnie the Pooh tent!!
Well after my three stooges routine I finally got the awning back together and at a proper draining angle. Got back in the tent and dried off. And the night went along with out further incident and we were warm and dry. The dog was no worse for ware, and was sleeping next to the girls tent. They didn't even know there was a storm, lol.
Night 2: Calm and dry all night, but the temp did drop significantly and we got condensation pretty bad. It began dripping just above the main seam accross the top. Maybe a drip every minute or so untill the day dried it out. possibly 60-90 total? Not enough to worry about around here being so dry during the day.
I suspect that I didn't have condensation on memorial because I set the tent up in between three trees and it acted like a sort of carport, because it was warmer last weekend than then but we were set up with nothing around except some willows several yards back.
