How on earth is using roof light for bush driving at night a big no-no? Isn't the point of having aux lights to be able to use them at night?

I think you have misunderstood the meaning of 'bush driving'.

If you have ever driven outside of the western world at night you would understand. Its not just off tarmac but on tarmac also. You cant use your aux lights due to other traffic but there are no white lines, no cats eyes, no kurb, no hard shoulder and pot holes everywhere. Then you have to deal with oncoming crabbing lorries who are often 1/2 in your lane and on full beam... Its not easy!

Fashionable!! My cruiser is Gloss white so I had blackouts made form vinyl and just squeegee them on like window tint so easy just to take right off, awesome $60 spent

I consider the original application to this was a Color sargent picking on his newly arrived rupert-(orificer) in africa

having a nice black out hood added to his buff sandy staff car to attract enormous ammounts of TSETSE flies

the rest is lost in history:)

Yeah its definitely not because of overhead lights. Its sunlight. We have a bus plant here in town and all buses getting shipped to Alaska get the flat black hood.

Also, most of the Alaska State trooper vehicles have flat black hoods. The sun hangs very low in the sky during the winter, reflections bounce off everything.

I've painted the hoods of my last two trucks flat black to keep the sun from reflecting into my eyes. The truck I have now does not have a black hood....yet
