Front LSD, Decisions, decisions.
I intend to install a worm type LSD in this and since 95% of the mission is road work and near half the year is not pretty weather. Well snow can be pretty.
At this time this has the factory plate type rear diff, that will need the re-stacking to get usable grip from it.
At this time I do not even know what I will want for axle gear ratios, it has 4.88 in it now. I expect they were quite suitable for what I consider the gutless 2.5L diesel these came with and low speed roads, not to mention great off highway use.
For me I have no problem downshifting when I need to.
I found that towing trailers with my Mighty Max was quite a good balance. It was the lowest powered tow rig yet on the open highway settled in at 80 with the traffic very comfortably with either my boat or a car behind it. What really amazed me was towing in the hills it was me in the left lane holding the 50+ speed while passing a line of cars, not in top gear most of the pull.
The V6 Max has 4.22 gears and that is where my mind is for this rig. I would rather have 3.15 Tcase ratio than living with a revving engine all the time on the road.
So I am close to buying one of the Russian diffs for the front, that worm gear up front and a clutch type in back should be sweet in the winter and allow us freedom for the many times a year we head out early before the roads are plowed.
