Hours of bookwork. Primarily the internal speed sensors and shift valves are all the same parts between the FWD and Montero transmission, as well as many Volvo, BMW and Toyotas as well. How did you discover that the Eclipse ECU will shift the Gen-3 trans?
Good to see you here Shaun, Thank you for getting this Pajero to me.Looking forward to seeing this thing back on the road with the new engine

Examining wiring diagrams?Hours of bookwork.
Yes as part of it, other documents were part of it as well. My final decision was made by checking part numbers of the shift solenoids within each transmission. It looks like Asian uses the same solenoid in most every new style transmission made be it for BMW, Volvo, Toyota or whoever. Being what the PCM really does not know what the solenoid is mounted in it really just matters that there are the same number, such as a 4 speed auto has 5 solenoids and the 5 speed has 6 of them.Examining wiring diagrams?

From there it will be tuning to get the shifting just right, this being something that Mitsu did not do in the first place so I know it will need to be addressed once this is driving which is more than a few months away.
Maybe its a terminology difference, but the auto 5 speed in my '05 is a Jatco (Nissan 75%, Mitsubishi 15%, Suzuki 10% ownership, ). Didn't know there was an Aisin (Toyota 51% ownership) 5 speed in any of the Gen 3s...The 5 speed I am using is a Gen 3 which is an Asian transmission.
