Pala Duro Canyon

Very cool canyon south of Amarillo:

Aha... I beg to differ. Street Wolf discovered some trails further down the canyon to the southeast that are perfectly legal... there's even a tiny town down there called... Palo Duro!

Your right, though. All the pretty trails that you can see shooting off into that canyon are private. If you drive down route 207 to the southeast you can see all these trails in detail... but you still can't get to them.

This was yet another frustration on our Palo Duro scouting trip.

Those look like some nice MTB trails, is there a map of them somewhere?

I have it in GPX format, I forget where I got it from, ether a free site or the pay site called every trial or trails.com, but when I went there the first time we fallowed the flags left up from a race the day before. The trail is like 4 or more big loops, and knowing when to jump onto the next loop in order to take the whole circle trail around the greater portion of the park is valuable. Also check the ranger station for a map...and I think there were also a posted maps at most trail heads for that loop.

Jeep Jamboree gets access to the private parts of the park every year. All you gotta do is fork over some of your cash (and drive a Jeep) and you'll get to drive.

Its more cash then Jeep. I contacted them a while back trying to plan an event down there. Its expensive... like $250+ per truck for the weekend. Looks like fun, but I doubt that there would be enough folks who want to pay that kind of money for a 2 day event.

Fourtunatley my wife drives a Wrangler but $250 for a weekend is pretty steep...
