(Part 2)You can't use that. It's not professional

LOL

"But if you are doing this as a real business instead of entertainment for amateur photographers you use the gear that matches the project. And sometimes you make that gear by hand. The crews on films that cost 100 million dollars to make have been doing it for years. "

Yeah if you have a crew working for you, you either can afford the pro stuff, or the pro stuff doesn't meet you needs and you have a crew to build to your specifications.

Hey ywen, you're famous. I'm assuming that it was your comment he hyperbolised relating to your thoughts on safety and the impact radius of the lights...

Hyperbole seems to be the best summation of this second article. Whereas the first produced the odd valid point, this second article resorts to exaggerating responses, attempts to trivialise them with sarcasm and by resorting to that most professional and mature logic (or was when we were 7 year olds): call someone who disagrees a moron. It moves from talking about professionalism being possible with cheap equipment in article one to invoking $100m productions as justifications for DIY, but here's a thought - when Peter Jackson et al. use engineers, prop makers and fabricators to build to their custom requirements for their $100m production the people they employ are professional craftsmen. As with the first blog I find the kernel of truth and insight overshadowed by the speciousness of the argument.

Having said that, I also want a "pro Elite Professional Pro 1" as well, just to add to my collection of overpriced and underused equipment, but think I'll wait for the "pro Elite Professional Pro 1Ds Mk III" as more pixels are better right?

Renting lenses and bodies is not too expensive if you're on a tight budget. The pros rent gear, particularly when traveling.

Ha good catch i didnt see that.. Just glossed over his post... Whatever he calls me im sure he's enjoying the attention.. Everyone can be a superstar on the internets.. U think ken rockwell dislike the negative posts about his writings? There is no bad publicity

To sum it up.. If youre platon, shooting a session of the president.. Would u bring a bungee corded light to set or bring pro level light and backup kit of pro level light? Its all about comission fee to investment cost ratio.. If you get paid peanuts(not saying this guy does), then its harder to justify expensive equip, ent when a cheaper one can do the job. I understand the rule of diminishing return is applicable to a lot of photo equipment.. However If you get paid reasonable amnt, then the advantages of certain equipment(like not dealing with a bungee corded light) is worth the additional one time expense

Ywen: I am sure Kirk does not read Expedition Portal and his reply was not directed at you. I agree with your thoughts about Ken Rockwell. But I will not go on about him.
