1997 Mitsubishi Montero SR (sorry it's not a sport)
California vehicle up to 03/2022.
Clean VA title in my name.
No rust! Very minor surface rust. It's not "surface rust" coming from under the paint like every vehicle in the south eastern US.
If you are in the eastern part of the US, and looking for a Montero, I've saved you from going to the west to find a nice one or buying another rusting truck.
Runs great, Everything works, 2wd, 4wd, 4HLC, 4LLC, A/C, heater, Power windows-some a little slow but they work, Power driver's seat, Cruise control, All instruments work, including fuel gage, front, rear and headlight washers and front and rear wipers, Both rear view mirrors are electric and heated and fully functional, rear window defroster works, Stereo, Battery is good, Stock-dealer installed keyless entry.
201k miles
3.5L sohc engine.
Rear factory air locker.
4.27 gears.
No egr valve stock.
Not ABS equipped stock.
Auto trans shifts perfectly.
Changes:
315mm front brakes, AKE Bono brake pads.
Gen 2.5 headlights with led bulbs.
New tie rod ends and adjusters.
New pitman arm and idler arm.
New upper and lower ball joints.
The transfer case has had the red ball changed with another red ball so you'll be good for another 25 years.
All seven seats. Has cloth front seats from and LS. The original passenger front seat is included.
New starter.
Oil changed and new oil filter.
New engine air filter.
5@ 17" x 9" American Racing wheels and Falken AT3 wildpeak 265/75-17 tires. BFG mud terrain is the spare. The Falken's are nearing their lifespan.
New driver's side exhaust manifold.
New valve cover gaskets, NGK Iridium spark plugs and wires, Conti alt-wp belt @186,378 miles.
KYB Monomax shocks.
Aisin water pump, Mitsubishi timing belt, NTK tensioner, Koyo idler pulley @164,248. At least another 23,000 miles before it needs the WP/timing belt service.
Welded on tow hitch.
It is ready to go and needs nothing but it's not perfect!
These are the things it needs:
The windshield is cracked but it passed VA mot every year as is.
The carpet is missing from behind the front seats.
The only real body damage is a dent under the driver's turn signal.
The stereo only has the rear 6x9 speakers. Imo the stock amp isn't working correctly but it works.
While taking pictures I found out the driver's side back seat won't roll forward. The right side is fine. I'll try to see if it's the cable and fix it.
The headliner is all there but dirty looking and has tears.
The power antenna is there but the moving part isn't there.
There is a CEL for one of the O2 sensors. It runs fine but I'm sure it's hurting the mpg. It gets 14-16mpg.
It could use an alignment.
As a testament to it's readiness last month I drove it to Charleston SC, about a 750 miles round trip, in one day. No issues.
I rotate this and another vehicle as my tow vehicle and off road trucks.
When I say "no rust" I don't mean it looks like stainless steel. But compared to almost every vehicle I see on here being worked on or for sale it is in very good condition.
Any part can be removed with a ratchet, and not have to use a 6' cheater bar.
And you can use the hardware again, if appropriate.
You're not going to have to use a torch or $25 of Kroil to remove things.
The fact that the gas gage works, including the low level light, and it is accurate tells you the shape it's in.
Feel free to ask any questions or for any specific photos.
I don't really need to or want to sell it but I don't need duplicate vehicles to maintain anymore.
Added a couple pictures. If you want to see a picture of anything specific let me know.
$5,000.
