Paw Print Trailers

Is anyone familiar with Paw Print trailers? I'm looking for a trailer to use behind my Tundra for an extended trip to Baja, kayak fishing. I don't plan on any technical rocking or anything. Just the ability to get to good fishing spots on both coasts and spend an extended amount of time in the boonies. Trip will be anywhere from a few to several months and I may head into an area for weeks at a time. I plan on setting up the Tundra, which has a camper shell, via a camping/storage setup like Taco, etc. I want the trailer to give me more capacity for hauling water and fuel, possibly a generator, fridge/freezer, kayaks, etc. Here's a link for Paw Print. http://www.pawprint-trailers.com/pawprint/index.htm Hit the standard features button to see the unit I'm interested in.

looks like you would end up with dust, dirt, and mud all over your equipment. would a 1/4 ton ex-military trailer or a adventure trailer suit your needs better?

nice design features with the extending tongue and all. Yes you will need to pack in such a way as to keep out the dust. Its still la basic leaf spring suspension but for a budget off road trailer it looks like a decent piece.

What are they asking price wise? If you are in the $500-600 range I would say it would be worth it with Military 1/4 tons bringing $1k in any kind of good shape.I would keep the fridge in the truck for a little better ride but the rest should be fine in the trailer.

I called them and haven't gotten a response. I did think about the dust and would use containers and tarp.

Yes a used military trailer would suit my needs too. I've started looking. I do plan on putting the fridge in the truck. Most likely behind the rear seat.

I don't know what part of the country you are in but there were 2 WWll 1/4 ton trailers on Ebay recently in Southern Ca.

pawprint jamboree trailers

Hello, I am the designer of the Jamboree trailer. It's design is the evolution of our convertible ATV trailer.I write to clear up some misconceptions I have read on this thread. 1. the jamboree does not ride on leaf springs. it does ride on a custom built Dexter # 10 rubber torsion axle with 45degree start angle. this axle offers independant suspension as well as EZ-lube hubs and a 545 hole pattern for matching wheels and tires on a jeep or the hub can be changed to other hole pattern sizes. The body (box) converts to a flat bed and the unit comes with a bed extension and spare tire rack. 2. by using car top carriers available at Wal-mart as well as other manufacturers you can protect your gear from dust, dirt and water and they fit the box very well. 3. This unit is light weight at 560lbs and can be pulled by the lightest of vehicles. 4. it has 20" of groung clearance with LT 215/75R15 tires and wheels. I hope this helps

Since we have you here. Whats your opinion of the torsion axle performance over long washboard?

"The biggest challenge for this suspension was Baja, Mexico where wash board is the norm, and it can last all day. Our experiences in Baja were that the rubber inserts started to work their way out of the main beam, and ultimately result in a failure of the drop arm. The arm would work it’s way from a downward position flexing to horizontal, and finally flexing past horizontal to an upward position."

My TENTRAX trailer is equiped with DEXTER 1400 lb TORX axle with a full set of (spare) Maint. bearings and seals-No problems so far after 2900+ miles

What do you typically pack in your trailer? I love the Tentrax idea.

I don't know how hard Rod hammered on the Trailblazer, but I do know that it has 3-4 peninsula trips plus a Copper Canyon trip under it's belt using a rubber torsion axle. One of those trips was while being towed by the current owner of record, and I know that he was moving out on those roads.

I believe the key is that when Ruben built the new frame for the trailer he incorporated shocks into the design. Without shocks the rubber has to do the damping too. That would result in it running quite warm on something like a washboard road. Which I can easily see loosening the rubber to metal bond inside the axle.
I don't think that it's the magic bullet cure, but I do think that folks with this suspension would benefit greatly by adding shocks if at all possible.
