Permanent or removable?

Bought a homebuilt trailer a couple of weeks ago, its a 5x10, sprung over with Bilstein shocks. I am having a rack built for it to hold my CVT, I have had a couple of local builders/welders look at it. One says to make it a permanent rack, sitting about 4 ft up above trailer rails so if I needed to haul a lawnmower or whatever, it would fit under it. The other option I was given was to make it removable, this way I would just have it mounted when I ran the tent and could remove it to haul whatever and it would only be about 2-3 ft off of the rails, easier access! Thoughts? Thanks!

Sounds like the removable option is better because it would keep your center of gravity lower. But will you be using an annex on your RTT?

+ 2 for removable. Go for bonus points and make it height adjustable and removable so you can have it low for transport, higher in camp, and off for other uses.

Re-moveable and height adjustable for Annex use, no need to compromise. My build in sig..

Nice build dstock! Love that Diamondback, I assume they build to any spec? I am trying my best to keep this trailer build minimal as possible but yet address the needs I have. I would love to have it adjustable, will definitely talk with my builder about it! Thanks!

I'm not sure about the building to spec, they actually had a layout already for an M101A3 but you do fill out a complete spec sheet. Definitely give them a call, they answered all my questions and were great to deal with throughout the transaction.

Have fun..it's addicting!

I was in the same boat and built mine to be a dedicated camping/expo trailer, keeping it packed/ready to go all the time has eliminated a ton of stress and prep time.

We picked up another trailer $200 to haul the mower and trip to Lowe's.

Pics? Adjustable or permanent setup? Thanks!

Dstock, can you or anyone else help me with design pics and welding material specs for this rack. The local welder has never done anything like this before and is a bit confused. Need helpas far as channel, tubing, pull pins, etc. Should the rack be built the full length of the trailer? What about the annex and interference with the fenders? What size channel or tubing is strong enough, the tent weight about 120, just build legs on each corner of trailer? As you can see lots of questions from me as well, its all new to me! Thanks for everyone's input and information!
