Picking up a Skamper

I wanted to get everyone thoughts on this used Skamper, we are supposed to pick it up tonight but want to make sure these are not lemons. Its clean on the inside with no apparent leaks, but has a tad bit of a dent on the roof (although did not puncture) and the canvas is good, not rips or tears.

It's currently on an 89 or 90 Ford Ranger with a 6' bed and I'll be putting it on my '12 Crew Cab Pro-4x Nissan, so I'll need to run it with the tale-gate down, which does not bother me. We are mainly looking for a better "Family camper" for local outings, long road trips (with little or no off-roading) and upcoming Soccer tournaments. Our 100 Series is frekin awesome for this but I want to share the duty a bit, in other words I don't want to kill my LC with miles.

So what do I need to look out for???

Here are a few pics

to buy or not?

the right front corner has been repaired, what date and weight on back of this camper ?. will your truck and tires handle this weight =loaded with water, food ect?? did you lift the cab over mattress and look for water stains?? if the price is right you know what you can afford. your pics look OK. Also if your '12 Crew Cab Pro-4x Nissan has a roof rack it must be removed,
just my 2 cents.
good luck=brian

Ole' skamper looks to be in decent condition. I picked one up around the same year. From the photo, the only thing I would be worried about is dryrot of the sides of the roof. When 1/2 way popped up, poke your head up there and look at the backside of the roof lip. One side of mine was completely rotted out. It wasn't to big of a job to replace but takes some time. Check out my skamper build thread in my sig for some pictures.

I agree with Brian, that one corner has been replaced. Pop your head up and look at the inside there too. Good Luck! :snorkel:

Awesome guys thanks for the insight. Ill definitely check the corners. The owner is letting it go for 800 and then I sourced some jacks for 150 so I'm not into it to much.

Keep it coming.

congrats on buy!!! should be a fun rig/build! when i bought mine a 95 i had no roof and the interior was shot. i'd take a good clean look around each corner with the roof halfway lowered and each side supported with 2x4's make sure theres no dry rot also check the back where the vent is. from skampers manufacture what was a very prone area for water leakage and dryrot. cant wait to see more!
