Picking up an FJ40 next week!!!

DID NOT GET THE ONE BELOW...:( BUT GOT THE MUSTARD YELLOW ONE IN POST 18! :wings:
Woohoo. I found one for a decent deal in my area and am jumping on it. its a 1980 and has the original 2F and most of the original parts. It was in a wreck some years ago and was fixed but some of the body work is off an older cruiser. Not a big deal because the rig drives straight and I am not wanting to make a total restoration.

I will be putting a bench seat in the back to strap my daughter's car seat to and adding a full "family" roll cage. Thinking of building an external cage to put a roof rack on and to hold a roof top tent. 2.5" lift and 33 x9.50 BFG ATs. I dont plan to do much more than that other than make it mechanically sound and comfortable.

Here are a couple preliminary pics. (I wont be getting the hardtop with the truck)

Very dissappointed.... the guy called just now and said he had a family argument... apparently he had promised his brother the cruiser, but his brother never bought it... well... now the search is back on...

Wow, that's no good :(

Hope you find an even better one with a lower price tag on it :)

Oh the heart break. I had 2 cruiser sold out from under me.

If I can offer some advice it is to be patient. The right one will come around. Don't jump on the first one, be smart.

I now have a FJ40 and learned the hard way that jumping on one to quickly can hurt in the long run. I ended up way over paying for a leaky rust bucket.

I think I found another one. This one has a recently blown engine, but I found a local who may have an engine he will part with.

It has a few rusty spots, but is more than I was getting with the other deal... besides a running truck... Will have the hard top and jump seats which I wouldnt have gotten with previous deal. I will also get a soft top with the deal. Will be a good start for my project. My dad is going to check it out on Saturday and may pick it up on tuesday so I may still be in good shape.

Depends where you live! :D

Well, it'll come with a soft top too. I'll try both, but I've got a tree, a snatchblock, and some rope to lift the hard top off with.

I hope the one shown above isnt a rust bucket. I dont mind some cosmetic stuff, but anything with structural rust is unwelcome.

El Gringo Spectacular!
I've gotten to where I prefer a hard top...better security. I used to just not carry anything I didn't want to lose in my soft top jeeps...

Too many sticky fingers everywhere...of course the Troopy top is just too heavy and big to remove!

Is this buy a "done deal" yet? :coffee: :box:
