Pickled Herring

Pickled Herring. You either love it or hate it. I happen to like it a lot. I like mine in the sour cream sauce. Take a piece of Wasa crisp, break it into six bite sized pieces and top with pickled herring. What a fine snack and high in omega 3. Enjoy with a nice pot of hot tea of your choice.

Wow, someone is talking about the pickled herring? LOVE IT!!!!!

That, kim-chee and sushi are the only foods to guarantee a night on the couch.

But, it's worth it!

I use kippered herring the way most people use canned tuna. It's a smokier, more flavorful version of the classic fish salad.

100% agreement and that is exactly how I usually eat pickled herring (except for the tea). The Wasa, herring in sour cream sauce with onions. I thought I was solo in this, my girlfriend always makes faces of disgust when I snack on these treats!

I prefer my pickled herring in the wine sauce on cocktail rye.

I just finished a can of kippered herring. I have a can of kippers and a 5.5 oz V8 everyday around 10AM.

Sursild? I like it, but I only remember to buy it around Christmas time. I suspect it's an aquired taste if you haven't been exposed to it during your childhood.

HAHAHA Do you guys in the US have any connection to Scandinavia? I was born and raised outside of Philly and moved to Sweden when I was 23. Untill then I have never seen pickled herring in the States...

Here's my favorite: Couch, cold lager beer, feet up, Phillies baseball match on tv with a fork and this herring http://www.abba.se/produkter/sill/sillinlaggningar/abba_skargardssill/

Translation: "One of our most popular pickled herrings. The sauce is made of crème fraiche, luxurious CAVIAR and finklippt chives.

MUMS!!!

I just finished another jar, it seems to keep people out of my office. Taste great and keeps the annoying interuptions to a minimum.

:victory:  Ahh! finally Danes can be known for something other than danish (which btw is called wienna-bread here)((well, pickeld herring is known all over Scandinavia off course...just rasing the danish flag here...)). Pickled herring is an integral and very important part of any social danish lunch and there's usually at least 3 different kinds. Some of my favourites are kryddersild (spiced herring), marinated herring and curry-herring.:chef:
A very well known retail chain here ran an advert for pickled herring calling it "Grandpa-Sushi".:ylsmoke:
