Pics of rig packed up ready to go?

This is what mine looked like when I went to overland expo. I went alone so I didn't need much. Tools in lower left gray bin. Camping gear in lower right clear bin. Bottom drawer is new but will be commonly used items. Top coolers keep beer, other drinks and ice. I actually only really needed one cooler. Behind front seats were camp chairs. This is a 2 door JKR by the way. Outside gear are maxtrax and toolbox on top with Trasharoo on tailgate

Sabre, that's one heck of a packing job. What happens if you need the saw? Unpack everything?

That's one of my problems packing, is trying to guess what I won't need access to before I bury it under the back seat somewhere...

I got a new rig and have a new packing setup, including a diy rack for a couple jerry cans

I know I've posted my setup in here before, but here's a recent photo. I built a plywood platform for organization. My cooler and an ActionPacker fit perfectly underneath. It makes packing easier and I can get to things without having to unpack.

Not fully loaded but this is generally what the back of my FJ looks like. ARB Fridge, Waterbricks, and a few FrontRunner boxes.

FJ Cruiser with fridge, (3) 5-gallon Scepter cans (2 fuel, 1 water), strapped down to BearTrax cargo plate modified with lengthened L-tracks. With all straps tensioned, nothing can move even a fraction of an inch, regardless of how rough the trail is. Hard-wired ARB compressor system is mounted on sidewall using Springtail molle rack, and includes circuit breakers for compressor, fridge, and auxiliary DC power outlet. Food storage & recovery gear is forward of the fridge & fuel cans, with Maggiolina RTT on top. 6 additional gallons of fuel can be stored on top of the RTT in (2) 3-gallon RotoPax containers.

Quarkster, I really like the use of the 80 20 material both on your OBA mount and your roof rack. Outstanding workmanship BTW. Is the rack a completely custom build or did you attach the 80 20 to exits tin rails?

jgaz -

I purchased the rack "side plates" from Prinsu Design Studios in Utah, then fabricated custom "hermetically-sealed" mounts to attach the plates to the original FJ rack mounting points. Probably not visible in the photos, the rack crossmembers are also 80/20 extrusions. The crossmembers to which the RTT is attached are 1" X 2", while the supplementary crossmembers are 1" X 1". The rack can, if desired, be removed without affecting the seal of the mounts to the roof.

I cut the 80/20 crossbars to 51", 1" wider than the Prinsu standard crossbars, to better compliment the RTT.

The 80/20 system is incredibly flexible as far as configurability. Next task is to assemble a gimbal mount for a 65W Siemens solar panel that lies flat on (or under) the RTT while on the road, but allows easy adjustment of azimuth and zenith when parked.

Ok, now it's packed for a weekend of prospecting. First time loading up both mining and camping equipment with the garvin rack, ARB fridge and arkpak installed. It's a snug fit.

4th-gen Toyota 4Runner (5-seater). Three-week trip (ongoing) from Chicago to Snowy Range, WY, Snowbird, UT, and other, yet-to-be-determined areas of UT and CO for scenic backcountry driving and campground/dispersed car camping. Two 4-gal Rotopax gas cans, a pair of TREDs, and a wading gage pole (old XC ski pole) directly on factory roof rack.

Initially three passengers, then four (tight, mattress will need to go on roof and more stuff on the middle of rear seat), then down to two (leaving rear seats folded with removable sleeping platform for two in place).

Pic of sleeping platform from last fall:
