Pioneer Platform RTT attachment

Anyone running a Rhino Rack Pioneer Platform with a roof top tent attached? If so how did you attach it to the platform? I will be installing a Tepui Autana soon and am curious of any additional cross bars or custom metal straps I may need to purchase/make for this setup. Thanks in advance for any insight.

I have no experience with Tepui tents, but we typically sell these rails to attach our James Baroud soft shell tents,

Thanks Rin, do you know how far apart the mounting rails are on the James Baroud soft shell tents? I'll be placing an order for the Rhino Rack Backbone system from you guys soon. Do you know if the model you carry has the quick detach legs or the semi-permanent system?

No worries.

I'm currently out at a show for James Baroud, but I can measure a Horizon RTT when i get home Wednesday.

We carry both systems, i highly recommend the quick mount legs, so much added convenience. Let me know when you are ready to buy and I can get you an Expo Portal discount code!

Observer
I just had the Pioneer installed on my Tacoma yesterday and have the Autana sky. They ended up drilling a couple of holes in the platform on one side to get the bolts through.

I was quite pressed for time and 12 hours later and a bit of searching I found a better way.

Tepui is setup that you can use their braces as cross braces that run from ride to side on the truck or you can change their direction (with some cutting) and that way you are using the pioneer cross braces and would have to buy some flat steel and make your own bolt brace. Not difficult and I wouldn't be surprised if Home Depot has something already. The great thing about the tepui is that it is flexible.

I'm off on a short trip to test out the setup. I haven't been in the tent yet (got it this week). I'm wondering if I can use the holes in the tepui base that is used to connect their brace to their tent. That just saves 1" of height and extra mounts. I'll grab some photos when it's setup.

The great thing about the rhino rack is that the channel used for accessories use the same channel bolt as unistrut. The bolts are available at Home Depot with 1/2" threads so customizing is super cheap.

My only lesson learned is to draw out how you want to use your platform before you setup. The whole reason I bought the platform was to mount jerry cans and propane on the roof and we ended up centering the tent so there is only 12" of space on the front or the rear which is not enough room to mount either. At 130 lbs, moving the tent is a 2 person job!

I am using the pioneer platform with my RTT and it works perfectly. I emailed Rhino Rack and they told me to drill and mount anywhere that was necessary to mount the tent. I drilled four holes and have not had any problems. No additional crossbars or mounts were needed. Just what came with my tent.
