OK so Ive driven a lot of places in the Tacoma and my old FJ-40. Ive always thought man I want to come back and ride this on the bike.
Being on a bike is a totally different experience than in a truck. Its like a whole new place it seems.
So I will start with 2 places Ive been with a truck that I want to go back and ride on my 990.
First a little back story I used to live in a tiny town in North east Utah called Dutch John. Right on the Flamming Gorge reservoir. Its a huge area surrounded by public land. USFS, BLM, and CO state public land to the east.
#1-I was working for the USFS at the time and I discovered an all dirt off road route from Vernal UT back up to Dutch John. The track goes through Crouse Canyon (BLM land). It is an amazing route. It then crosses the Green River on a Swinging Bridge (USFS, and BLM) Just wide enough for a truck.
It then climbs out of the river canyon area and up to 191. You can then hang a left and cruise back into good ole Dutch John. The whole route takes maybe 3 hours on this dirt route. Ive always wanted to ride that on a bike. Would be a great day.
#2- On a recent trip to Chile to see my GF. We rented a Hilux 4wd and drove from Iquique Chile on the coast, to San Pedro de Atacama. It was, Id say half dirt maybe 60% dirt and the other half crappy paved roads. We drove through some of the most amazing areas. From Salt Flats and Salt lagoons, to High desert town sites long abandoned in the Andes. We drove along the Bolivian border. Passing Volcano's, and got to take some very adventurous roads. On a bike it would have been damn fun no doubt. Even 2 up it would have been manageable and fun.
