In ancient times i had a old series 109 like the vehicles i saw in the Africa movies. Sadly I did not keep that...

Now as a just off-roading vehicle i was considering a 1997 Land Rover Discovery... 8cyl motor, 152k on the clock and a auto tranny. The body looks ok but i really dont care as i will likely rhino line it. With this being the font of all knowledge please school me on why or why not for this year and this model and what i should look at for price and issues should i choose to go inspect it?

As always i bow in your general direction as i am not worthy...

Tons of D1 and D2's out in uwharrie - really capable trucks and easy to build up for what ever you want to do and they are cheap to start with.
there are down falls of course.. mostly in the maintenance areas.

best advice I can offer is pay LR to do a prepurchase inspection. Either you or seller pay. Worth the ~$300 every time IMO. Will give you the roadmap of what will go wrong and what areas you lucked out in.

If you plan on running it hard and putting it away wet, it's not gonna like that especially if the previous owner wasn't keeping up on maintenance. They are tough trucks, but not in the same way something like an old Toyota or XJ is. But of course, that all depends on the price you pay. For $500-1000, who cares.

i have had jeeps, wanted something with a little more flair a little less follow the crowd appeal.

Much like paint, the rhino lining should protect the metal. I assume you have paint on your vehicle?

Additionally, i dont have carpets in my house. All hardwoods or tile.

Hopefully this beauty will be at my house by sun down Saturday...

While I am a fan of orange, I understand your desire to rhino line it. Looks like it already has a few upgrades. If it is a 97, then it is a late year D1. Easy to build up. Tons of info here and discoweb.com. Good luck and welcome!

Sadly the owner pulled the rug from out from under me and sold it even after we had set to pock it up Saturday. I was looking at a few when we had struck the deal which I passed on.

I too was sold on the orange and likely would not have rhino lined it...

The other two had paint issues...

I am back to square one.
