Playful Dolphins

The wife and I just landed in Cedar Key Florida for the winter, managing a small Motel, RV Campground and Tiki Bar.

This place is birding paradise and every day I'm going crazy not being able to go out shooting. We're trying to get the place cleaned up, but that's another story.

So the other day, we're sitting out at the tiki bar talking with friends when I hear a ton of splashing in the water. This is strange because its a tidal marsh, and not really an area you'd want to swim, but a haven for fish and birds who fish.

We look over to see a dolphin herding up schools of fish and jumping up through the center of the school chasing after some lunch.

Notice the fish right in front of the dolphin its chasing!!!

This shot the dolphin actually caught the fish!

This was so amazing for us because we knew this area was rich in aquatic wildlife and birds, but had no idea we'd be sitting on our dock watching a Sea World show!!

I'm trying to talk the wife into letting me take out a loan and get that 800mm that Arthur Morris is always talking about on his site!

Hope you enjoy the photos as much as we enjoyed watching it live!!

Thanks for the replies, and you're right, the tiki bar will be a challenging experience. Hardest decision for the day is do I put on Teva's or Flip-Flops:sombrero:

Flip Flops!!!!!! The name alone "Tiki Bar" makes those Tevas formal wear so your flip flops or bare feet and a Hawaiian shirt. However, if the Tiki Bar has a wedding then you might dress up and bring out the Tevas.

Wanderer, I'm sure there are plenty of things to do for the 6yrold, but you'll have to be creative.

Remember that Cedar key is an old fishing town that has a population of about 6-700. Not much in the way of activities for youngsters.

There are a bunch of pontoon rental companies down on the warf, kayak rentals to bring you to the islands that are lined with White Sand Beaches, abandon ruins, airplane rides for $20 a person (Planning on going next week to scope it out, and I'll be sure to post up photos) and a ton of stuff to do in near-bye towns, Manatee Springs (20-30 min drive), Crystal River (45 min drive)

We were almost thinking about putting something about that on the site that this isnt the most Kid Friendly town, especially for those families thinking about coming over from Disney to spend a day or two relaxing away from the traffic and outrageous prices

If your son/daughter enjoys the outdoors, they'll have fun, if they need a ride or attraction to keep them happy, then I'm afraid this isnt the place

But if you and the wife come by yourselves, I'll be sure and have my Cabana Boy outfit on to serve you a drink:sombrero:

she's good outdoors...heck I usually have to hose her off before we head inside most days...(worst tom-boy EVER)..

lemme throw some info at the wife...just wonder how 3month old twins will do...who am I kidding...they sleep as much as koalas right now!!

keep us posted...and ya might just see some northern refugees for a few days...we're yankees...but kinda hillbilly and the money spends just as well...
