I purchased a 2000 Toyota Land cruiser just the other day.Single owner vehicle, all service records kept. The LC has around 120k miles on it. I did reasonable research about LCs before I bought this vehicle. Now, after reading more on this portal, I hear that the model year 2000 having transmission issues. Can someone elaborate? My vehicle seems to be driving fine, shifts smoothly, but I am worried if the tranny will go bad sooner or later. Secondly, when I drive, I hear a lot wind noise (road noise). I am not being able to locate where it is coming from. All the door windows and moonroof seems fine. Also, I get a lot of condensation build up inside, when i leave the vehicle overnight? What could be the reason? Please help. Thanks.

Welcome to ExPo LR. The whole 2000 model year trans failure thing is not worth worrying about. Nobody actually has data saying "25% of MY 2000 trannies fail, while only 15% of MYs 99 and 01". It is just one of those things. Sometimes they break, sometimes they don't. Drive it, maintain it, enjoy it!

I have some wind noise on my '99, and it leaked a bit at the top of the windshield on the passenger side. Dry it off well, and run a strip of electrical tape across the top of your windshield/roof junction. I did that as a test, and the leak stopped, and wind noise died too. The front glass is a common leak point. My 80 series did it too.

The 100 series is an awesome platform. Do your basic maintenance and then enjoy it!

This is the first time I've heard/read about the 100 having leak problems.

OP, do you know if yours has ever been involved in an accident? A door or hatch could be misaligned causing a bad seal.

I'm thinking it is most likely due to an improperly installed replacement windshield. There was a few threads on mud when I was looking into it for my 80. For some reason the installers seem to have trouble with the way the windshields like to be installed.

I just did a quick 'mud search for "windshield leak" and got 180 threads. 9 of the first 20 were in the 100 series tech forum. I'd say its a fairly common issue.

Problem Solved :)

So here is an update. This might one day be helpful to others in future. Took the vehicle to a transmission shop. They checked everything and ruled out any transmission issues. As a matter of fact, according to them, if a vehicle shifts smoothly (which mine did) during the first few gears (such as one, two and three), then it is very unlikely the transmission could be at fault (Sigh of relief!). They suggested me to let someone replace the fuel filter and have my exhaust system checked. So I took the vehicle to my mechanic, got the fuel filter replaced. The exhaust manifold had a few holes in them and I asked him to replace that too. And that fixed the problem :) I asked him which one could have been the problem, he told me the problem was most likely due to the exhaust system. Anyway, Now vehicle runs super smooth. Thank you everyone :)

So which problem did the exhaust and fuel filter fix? The wind noise? You said it ran fine and smooth, but were worried about the transmission and had wind noise. I might be confused???
