My son Alex, friend Paul and I spent the day exploring NH's "Great North Woods" this past Saturday. Temperatures hovered around 2 Degrees and the sun treated us to a glittering display of last week's ice blanketing the forest.
In 2011 Brookfield Renewable Power and its partner, Freshet Wind Energy LLC constructed the $275M Granite Reliable Wind Project located in Coos County, New Hampshire. The project consists of 33 Vestas V90 3 megawatt wind turbines dotting 15 miles of ridge line.
Turning off route #16 the first 7 miles of dirt road, to the electrical substation, are maintained through the winter, our goal was to travel the 8 miles beyond before winter's snow makes it impassable. This is a beautifully constructed dirt road built to get the (99) 139' long turbine blades and (33) 286' tall (not in one piece!) to their final destinations.
.
We encountered 6-8" of crusty snow with heavily rutted ice below, aired down to 15 PSI and dropped into 4LOW.
