Pop & Lock Tailgate Lock

Anyone installed one of these on their truck? I was disappointed that the tacoma didn't have a tailgate lock. If installing a tonneau or cap this is kind of essential for security. I'm glad to see they make them for the 05-07.

I have not installed the pop and lock, but have installed electronic locks that tie into the vehicle electronic locks on my last 2 trucks. No worrying about it, always locked when it should be, unlocked when it shouldn't be. No fumbling with keys when you're arms are loaded up, just find the remote and hit the button (assuming you have keyless entry). I would definitely recommend one. They are marginally more expensive, but significantly harder to install.

Hi, have one on my 2006 Tacoma. Really easy to install. Works well. Double secure with the lock on my canopy top.

Pop and lock

If you live in the salt belt they might not last very long. Both my friend and I have had ours seize up from corrosion. I don't think the lock is a bad design but salt really eats them up. I have also had to replace all my locks on my Leer Topper. This is after two Wisconsin winters.

I've got one on my '05 Taco. A word of caution- the plastic tailgate piece has somewhat sharp edges if you run your hand along it.

You can also do the hose clamp mod for added security for the grand total of <$1. Put a hose clamp around the right side hinge.
