Pop top on ford excursion?

Will a sportsmobile pop top work on a ford excursion? If so why hasnt anyone done this, it seems more pratical than taking a van and spending the money to convert to 4wd? Just wondering because iam thinking of doing this and just wanted to know the pros and cons..
