Thanks to Wil, we now have a great research article in the equipment section of Expedition Portal.

HERE IS THE REVIEW ARTICLE

So post up the units you are using and any feedback. It will help those researching a fridge.

Very informative article, Wil. It will be useful to many here. I would comment on the fact that you left out the Fridge Freeze models built in San Diego. Although they are way to much "bling" for most of us, they are an exceptional unit.
Good job,

Mike, I was more going upon reliability, serviceability and history, although new products should never be dismissed in choosing your options. There is also another company in Tucson that makes Fridge/Freezers too, And that one too is big $$$. Availability of these products and serviceability, may be issues to some readers, where with the top 4, they are serviceable world wide.

If anyone would like I will write up an update and include this information in the research and selection section of the review, let me know.

Thanks for posting the link, Mike!

Superb writeup, I'll be referring to this often later this year when I have $$ budgeted for a fridge! Thanks Will!

I've got an Engel 45 and swear by it. The convenience is great and you can't beat not having to dig through ice to get to that last tasty beverage! Also, I'm amazed at how low the power consumption is.. 18 hours on a stock battery w/o running the engine and my 4runner turned right over!

Thanks for all the great feed back! Although the fridge review is not 100% complete, as I am awaiting the temps to reach the 100+ degree mark (should be May at this rate...) to get some good test out of the Engel.

I also have a few other good reviews up my sleeve that will posted once Scott victoriously returns from Morocco!

This is an old thread but just so its in the archives, I took my Engel through death valley in July of this year. It was outside in the back of my truck, the outdoor temperature was about 128, anything above #2 on the dial would freeze water. It did not appear that the fridge was affected by the heat at all.

I never had a meter with me to measure how much current it was taking.

All in all engel makes a great product.
