Nee-nuu Nee-nuu!
Hello folks!
My dream of owning a big 'ol MB firetruck has come true! I've just imported (2) 1222 AF Feuerwehr TLF's into the USA, and they are now relaxing at my house in Portland, OR.
The truck I'm going to keep is a bit rare from what I've seen, it's got the features I had to have (rear locker, super doka, light tower) but also includes a central Rotzler hydraulic winch, which I hadn't found on a super doka previously. It's a 1985 model with about 36,000 km, and last used by the Altenglan volunteer department in 2016. I collected all the photos I could from their website of it in action, and a couple of the volunteers that used it are following me on instagram! Nice to have someone to answer questions. Anyhow, I plan to retain it's ability to squirt water, as well as it's firetruck good looks, but I'll convert it into a mobile work/adventure rig over the next many years. On to the pictures:
This is us trying to figure out how to make them go at the port of Tacoma. The Ziegler truck had dead batteries (even though they were new).

Once we got rolling, we fueled up and hit I5. Turns out my truck had a sticking brake on the passenger front, so we had to stop at Wilco and fix that. It freed up thankfully.

Made it home that night after about 4 hours on the freeway. These things are a blast to drive- they go 90kph and could maintain 85kph on every hill we encountered, which is a pleasant change coming from older Unimogs. They are modern, fairly comfortable and have great visibility.

I'll be slowly going through both trucks searching for treasure, inspecting their systems and trying to figure out how to work everything. It's a lot of fun!
More to come!
