Portrait Shots (show us your best)

My girlfriend needed a picture to send for a competition, so we threw together a little studio and this is what we came up with. Background is obviously Photoshopped (I don't have proper lighting to use a backdrop, so the existing one looked pretty bad) but other than that I really like her pose!

A few of my favorites from my friends engagement this last week. Poses are cheesy, but that's actually what they wanted!

I was hired to shoot a couple for a magazine. The story is a valentine type thing about relationships. The two are very outdoorsy, athletic people. We spent a day hiking in Sedona and flagstaff. Then we spent some time in the studio.

The editor came up with the idea to post 3 options on Facebook and let their readers pick. I'm quite partial to the middle one as it required the most effort by all. Plus I think it's more (sex) appealing. I kick myself for not get a rose and other props for the Tango look.

Kaitlynn was in car accident as a kid. She's been to two paralympics for tennis and is now training to play for Team USA in basketball. Her upper body strength is amazing to watch.

The only way to get two Vizslas to sit still is to makem' think they slightly in trouble. Actually this is a composite. Twenty odd shots didnt get me one shot with both looking proper.

One of my true enjoyments is to open the camping closet and watch how fast these two clamor, scratch and claw to get in the van. If we need to open it for other reasons we put them out back to avoid false alarms.

For the techies, this is f9 with one strobe in a 24" softbox and a big reflector in my family room.

It's great Honu, but I would crop it square to avoid the distractions to the left of the baby. The little girl's face is in such beautiful sharp focus I want that to be larger in the image!

yeah square would be good :) I love square images myself MF thing :) hahahaha
but don't deliver proofs as final crop ever :) ya never know what they want to print ?

one of those things I struggle with the idea of more control over the images and how they see them ? fine balance for sure :)
been debating about doing prints only ? but that is a tough one to sell to everyone vs files ?

Here is another portrait shot that is a bit non-standard in view point and perspective, but somehow it works:
