Mind if I ask why you have duct tape over your plate?

You know blurring it out in photoshop is much less time consuming and lest wasteful to the environment.

I'm always keeping my eyes peeled for a Thule evolution on Craigslist, but haven't seen any under $300 come up which surprises me.

Interesting about the waterproofness. Thanks. I guess I prejudged incorrectly.

I have used a few different Thule boxes for the last ten years and have never had a problem with water getting in. Even when it was crammed so full it took two people to get the lid to close.

The Thule (or wood tick, as a neighbor calls it) on my truck has been on for over three years, with no problems. I have two other Thule boxes that are ten years old and are used all winter and some summers, no problems with them either.

I couldnt afford the Thule or Yakima boxes, so I bought one of the $75 Sears ones

They dont look nearly as aerodynamic, but we've had it on the top of our camper for 4 years now. We keep winter gear up there in the summer, and when the seasons change, we swap out the cold weather gear with the summer clothes.

Like others have said, I went to the local hardware store and bought some of the rubber window seals that you simply peel and stick on and it's kept ours waterproof through some hellacious storms

I bought a Yakima box last year prior to a cross-country drive. It was worth every penny. I'm just about to mount it back on the wife's yuppie Saab to drive back to San Diego in 2 weeks. I wish I had a Cruiser to mount it on right now!!

Somewhere in Montana on our way to VA through Canada last year. Same Volvo as in m Sig, now 315,000 miles!!
