Eilean Donan Castle is a mandatory stop on the way to Skye. Entrance is only 6 pounds, which I believe makes it a great value.

Another mandatory attraction on Skye is the climb to the Old Man of Storr.
It's a pretty short hike and the views are incredible.

I am also happy to report that this great video, brought to my attention by our English friend Martyn at Adventure Trailer, helped clarify any confusion regarding the countries of UK.

That is such an awesome video.

I'm in Jersey at the moment. Coming back to England on Monday and I need to decide if I should head towards Wales or Scotland first. I'm thinking Scotland at the moment.. I will be following your trip for sure!

I haven't seen a whole lot of Whales but my first preference would be Scotland - we love it here.

Does someone know what is the cheapest/most convenient ferry option to Ireland/Northern Ireland from UK? (preferably Scotland)

What I have found so far is 124 pounds (2 pers + 1 car) Cairnryan - Belfast

thank you!

The view from our room in a B&B. One nice thing about Skye is that price for a B&B room are about the same everywhere - 25 to 35 pounds per person.
Persephone is a passionate horse rider so this was a nice surprise.

L1100298.jpg

This is exactly why I decided to go for a fun car this time...

An interesting feature of trekking on Skye is that you can climb pretty much anywhere - at your own risk

L1100338.jpg

The views are breathtaking no matter where you look...

We did a short hike to Coral Beach, which I believe should be spelled Cowral Beach.

L1100348.jpg

L1100357.jpg

L1100366.jpg

We also visited an old lighthouse, which was turned into a B&B at some point.

L1100381.jpg

It appears that the staff got bored and started putting out wee cairns everywhere.

L1100391.jpg

Even Stonehenge was represented.

L1100385.jpg

Getting inspired, I even created my own MacPelletier castle.

This is pretty much as commercial and touristy as it gets over there. Quite a nice change from other places I have been.

Being so close to the Talisker distillery, we had not choice to stop by...

and enjoy the local display of characters along the road...

Scottish News.

One of the many reasons why I believe travel is so important is that it is really the only way to connect with the local reality of a place.

So here in the UK, beside the Olympic, a few noteworthy news have been all over the place lately.

Everyone has heard of Prince Harry prestation in Vegas. But here, the debate raged over if the Daily Sun was right ot publish the picture on the front page, despite of the Palace Order.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2012/aug/28/sun-naked-prince-harry-complaints?newsfeed=true

The other news is the fight from Sir Richard Branson over loosing his train contract. He is furious, going as far as offering to run it profit-free.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/business/2012/aug/26/richard-ranson-free-west-coast-rail-service

But the most interesting event for me is the coming plan for a referedum on Scotland independance. Growing up in Quebec and having gone to 3 of these, I have quite a certain opinion on it....I did not realize that Scotland was planning to do this.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scottish_independence_referendum,_2014

And talking to people here, it seems pretty clear that this would pass easily.

The Benz is awesome but many times we already wish we had a proper camper. Skye has some of the most beautiful campsites I have never seen. Because I am doing work from the road, I need to have reliable wifi access so for now we need to stay in B&Bs, although I am planning on bringing back the tent and go camping when we have the chance (like on the weekend).

I am liking the Mercedes Vito camper/poptop. I don't know much about these vehicles but it seems like a good package.

Scots

I have some scotish friends ,I think they are scots but I can't understand a word they say. They communicate in some type of language consisting of moans, grunts, facial twitches and incomprehensible murmurs. Thir main form of speech seems to be " aye" which seems to be the universal pause filler.
Please let us know if you were able to communicate with the locals.

Hey Christian... Love the pictures.
How long are you there for? We are about to head up in a few days time?

As you can imagine, poshlanding in UK is not cheap....so I am back in CA right now for a couple weeks to replenish the bank account...

The plan is to go back to get the Benz then cross over to Ireland then down to France/Spain. Or perhaps Germany for the OktoberFest!
I will let you know when we are in London as there are other friends I haven't had the chance to see.
