positioning map on the website

this maybe something very simple. we are getting ready to leave for Alaska in 30 days and then south america. my question is what map program to use to place positioning and planned route on the website? i see them on some overlanding websites. thx

I'd suggest using Google My Maps to make a custom but interactive web map of your route that you can embed in your trip website. You can add routes by setting destinations and getting regular driving directions, or by editing the map directly to draw a route (where directions don't work). You can add waypoints for POIs and embed details and images for pop ups etc. For updating while en route you can take your coordinates as points or a track on a smart phone and export those as a KML which uploads directly to My Maps. It's pretty simple but you can actually do quite a bit with it.
