I think it is a side-slide bar. To protect your windows or cab when scraping along the ground. It is probably level with the wheel arch, as in if you look from the back of the LR down the side of the vehicle.

Nope not stock. It's a 3B (3.4 diesel) out of a BJ42 LandCruiser, 4speed gearbox and t/case is from a cruiser too.
Good but slow drive train. Good looking rover you have!

Yeah it's not fast but plenty of torque. It's getting a turbo next year, and PAS.. oh, and decent seats.

thanks! and yes actually. it is a 1984 defender 90 bone stock with a 2.5 NA diesel and it is in the US already. hopefully i will be leaving to pick it up this friday!
