Post your tents

I don't have a heater at this moment, but I have been looking at a few lately. Oddly enough yesterday morning I had a quick nap in the tent after I set it up. With the unit sealed up and just my body heat (and the dogs) the tent seemed to warm up quite quickly.

Nice. I have a mr heater ceramic heater. Just the single one for space concerns and it works really good. It's the only one I know of that's safe to run all night inside of a tent. At least with using propane.

After ground camping for so many years, we decided when we drive around the world we would try to have a little more comfort and protection from the elements especially now that we have a new daughter to take with us. Our first trip out was definitely cozy in the Autohome Columbus. It's a bit heavy up top so it makes rock crawling a little more interesting, but manageable.

How do you like it so far.

I like it. Seems pretty well made, I've never slept better while camping. I do wish the cover zipped on instead of Velcro. I'm going to see if I can remedy that. It has two sunroofs built, which is a nice feature for the price, and an LED light strip.

I found a random pic from a trip earlier this year to Bodega Bay in CA. It was really windy but the tent looks solid, as for the annex you can see my ice chest and other stuff holding the floor down. If I find any other pictures that are more interesting I'll be sure to post up!

Looks good, how did you mount your tent?

The first time for the CVT Mt. Shasta in the San Mateo Mountains of New Mexico.

Temps were below freezing, so I set up the Mr. Heater on a table in the annex. With it on low, it kept the chill out of the tent all night and actually was warm enough that I wound up sleeping on top of my zero degree rated sleeping bag with just a blanket.

Storm came in in the morning, just as I was eating breakfast and had to put it up quickly as the storm started out as sleet, then turned to rain. I have it off the Xterra right now, and drying in my shop.

Nice Xterra, what kind of mileage do you get with that thing? I'm looking for a newer suv in the next few years so I'm getting ideas. I get 200-230 to a tank and that sucks for road trips...it wheels nice though!

My tent is just mounted on the stock roof rack currently. I have an after market Surco rack but it'll need heavy mods to make it work how I want. Most likely I'll make a rack for my motorcycle trailer if anything.

Here is my little dorky *** trailer, it's a Haulin brand from the early 2000s, it's really sturdy and USA made. I've got 33s for it and a 5 on 4.5 axle that needs to be installed. I wanted to make sides and a rack tall enough to fit the bikes. That way it'll be my little base camp set up.

I average 18 mpg with it, until I put the tent on - then mileage drops to 16 mpg due to the change in aerodynamics and extra weight.

That's actually not too bad at all. My Jeep is all over the place but realistically I get between 13 and 17 when I go places. That's loaded down including towing my bike so I guess I can't complain. If I use the car for my short commute in Bay Area traffic then I'll see 10.5-12 mpg regularly...lame...but hey, it beats a car payment right now. I'm thinking I'll either get a JK Unlimited or the new TRD Off-road Taco but who knows...
