It should have an Eaton G80 locker stock... The Volvo 7/9 is actually a surprisingly capable light offroad vehicle in my opinion- low gears, very tough suspension, and way more flex than you'd expect.
Yeah, most S/V90's had 3.73's but you could swap out for deeper. Some Dana 30 parts are interchangeable. Though, the SE trim level had IRS. I've had a few...that inline 6 is not the best of the Volvo engine offerings, but it's not bad if you keep on top of maintenance. I'd prefer a redblock or 5 cyl whiteblock (in sig) though.
