Power adapters for unlimited battery life

Dinkin around with some timelapse shots of the stars rotating above Eastern Utah this weekend, I got to thinking that it sure would be nice if I could plug my camera into my truck and let it run all night.

Canon's AC adapters certainly make this possible, but running an inverter to step from 12v DC to 120v AC to 7.2v DC seems unnecessarily inefficient.

Has anyone worked around this?

Not sure about adapting but can't you just get a big battery pack for it? Maybe an intervalometer would help too. I want to pick one of those up.

I'd consider plugging it into a Goal Zero battery pack or maybe even one of the battery packs designed to power strobes. I know Paul C. Buff makes one called the Vagabond that contains lithium ion batteries good for about 400-500 full power flashes. Only weighs 3.5 pounds. Something like that should have enough power to get you through an evening.

Great ideas, thanks.

MagicLantern gives me a great intervalometer and I Don't need a goal zero since I already have a great solar/aux battery setup and I'd rather not buy more batteries.

Ideally, a way to convert varying truck voltage to 7.2v would be most efficient but I'd rather not solder my own contraption when dealing with my camera. I'm also not sure of the exact amperage needed since the camera pulls what it needs from the battery.

So I think I'll stick with Canon brand equipment here drop the hint to Santa.
