SO I had this rear winch bumper that I mounted up the other day, it appears to be a modified rear d-90 step bumper with an extra tube welded to the rar and a large steel plate welded to there that the winch mounts to...the lower mounting points dont line up with anything on the 110 so I went about making some securing brackets out of some thick steel plate I had laying around..(I love my plasma cutter) and welded them to the frame...this should stop too much stress being placed on the bumper and securing bolts and hopefully stop my ever rusting rear crossmember from being pulled off when winching jeeps out ...most embarrassing..

Installed my 10 feet of synthetic cable and she is done...just have to make a rear winch cover step for it and voila..

While I had the plasma cutter fired up I cut out some replacement metal pieces and welded them into some areas of the frame that didnt look real good..

The combined weight and lifted suspension and the removal of the rear sway bar mounting points when we replaced the rear frame pieces means that a little bit of excessive body roll made the girlfriend REALLY nervous when I swerve side to side down the road..:Wow1: I have already forewarned her that at some point in time we will probably tip it over.. So I went about cutting off another set of sway bar mounting points and welded them back onto the frame to appease the wife..

Mounted the centre trans protection bash plate..man this thing is heavy..
110-camel-053-L.jpg

All this added protection stuff and the stuff I want/need to take to be self sufficient on the road means that alo of weight has ben added to the truck..I didnt like the way the rear was sitting so upon investigation the brand new old man emu kit I installed was not the extra heavy duty one I ordered, the rear was just heavy duty 2 inch lift the rear needed the extra heavy duty 660 lb expedition style springs....so out come the brand new springs and the correct ones installed...now it sits where I ike it..

Got word the other day that Maxxtrax has done a special limited edition run of Camel coloured sand ladders, I sent them an original piece of my vehicle to match the colour and they said they turned out great...so for you camel freaks out there get in touch with them and order yourself a set of CamelTrax...:26_16_2:

Wow, 2 days left and still making changes - you are nuts! Have you done any trips to test out your mods and kit to make sure it will all work as expected? I'm looking forward to hearing about your travels though - are you going to be using your new website or posting here?

DUDE...I am a professional...of course they will work...LOL..I was supposed to do some testing a couple of weekends ago but family commitments didn't allow..most of the stuff is enhancements or protection stuff, haven't done much in the way of modifications to mechanical.. so things like winch etc are tested in house so to speak..besides..where would the fun be in that..whats that bit about the real adventure begins when the unplanned unfolds...LOL.. I love this site so I will be keeping a thread going here and I am going to try my hand at doing my own websites..I also have a facebook for ease of updates under young rovers.. I am kinada liking the-long-way-home.com name so I think that will be my main one...the youngrovers is what I plan on calling my business when I get home..may have my younger brother come in with me..

So here it is..friday night and due to leave sunday morning..still lots to do..one thing I have not been happy with is after replacing the rear doors the windows are not wide enough and they almost fall out of the tracks..baffled as to why, but I have a possible solution..I never really liked the ease of which a glass window can be smashed to break into your car so I bought a couple of panels of 5mm polypropolene with the scratch resistant coating..marguard..traced the original window glass and made them about 1/4 inch wider, carefully cut with circular saw...remove the bottom regulator guide off the factory glass and re-install onto the new door "glass", slide it in and do a test run and they fit perfectly, now you can hit it with a hammer and all it might do is bouce back and knock your teeth out...would love to catch a thief on video doing that..LOL..so I did both rear doors like that..

re-install both rear doors and voila..good to go..

so here it is Saturday night and we are leaving tomorrow...better start packing..LOL.. time to fit 10lbs of poop into a 5lb poop bag.. being the land rover mechanic I have to seriously curb my desire to take every tool in my tool box...but honey, what if we need to replace a layshaft gear on the side of the road...I need the hydraulic press...you will just have to leave the kitchen sink behind..:coffeedrink:

Hey josh.. As with all well presented tests we need to set up a base test first for comparison values.. Will need to try it on yours first..
