Since this is my first time posting on these boards, I'll give a brief introduction. I've been a proud Tacoma owner for about 3.5 years, upgrading from an extended cab TRD Prerunner to a doublecab TRD 4WD about 1.5 years ago. I've definitely been excited about offroading since day one, but found that the 2WD just didn't cut it on steep terrain (although that rear locker sure did come in handy!). I've done a few minor modifications, with plans on some big ones in the near future. Current mods include:
After doing much research, I ordered a suspension lift kit from Demello offroading (inspiration: Expedition West's Tacoma). It just arrived last week, and I can't wait to put it on this Friday!! I went with the Donahoe coilovers w/ Camburg upper arms for the front, and the Deaver 8-leaf springs w/ Bilstein shocks for the rear. I also ordered up some 255/85 R16 BFG M/T's, which I will have put on after the lift. I'll include some photos in my next post.
I'm still deciding on whether or not to re-gear right away. I didn't re-gear for the 31" tires, and I didn't notice much of a difference from the stock 29" tires. But I'm sure I'll notice quite a difference when I run 33" and still have the stock 3.91:1 gears. I'm looking at getting the cryo'd gears from Longfield (Yukon 4.88:1). They quoted me $435 for the front & rear, which seems like a pretty good price for some great gears. Although I still need to get a quote from a shop to install them. Any advice?
- 265/75 R16 BFG A/T's
- custom rock sliders
- LineX bed liner
- canvas camper shell
- rock lights
- custom mudflaps (actually, I just took scissors to the stock flaps & cut them down about 2-3")
