I wouldn't give up on the idea of owning one in the USA as I've already seen a few under 25 years old and with US plates... I'm not sure if the reason is that in BC we have the option to get a proper BC vin# unlike the short Japanese one? I'll let you know if it works as I plan on importing my 1993 Nissan Patrol down the States in a near future.

So good luck little DinoEvo, I've had the chance to work on that van with the owner while I also owned a Delica a while ago. Maybe mine was better looking ;)
(But not as well built!)

Cheers,
Mr. D

Do you mean importing to California or to another dramatically much more reasonable state? I'm talking California unfortunately...

I have wondered how the US would treat my BC issued vin for importing into the US... but for me mine turns 25 years old (or maybe has need to figure out what month it was made in 1989)...

Best of luck with the sale it is very well put together Delica....

In California, there are 2 issues... Smog & DOT safety/road worthiness. What I recall is that an example of the vehicle has to be crash tested and meet certain dot crash restrictions. Iirc, there are some loopholes like collector status vehicles, etc. but I'm far from an expert.

my best advice would be to check the state where you'll be a resident. Alternatively you could remain a "visitor" here and therefore not have to register your vehicle here. I think there's more to it than that, but I frequently see cars from out of state/country and I can't imagine our great bureaucracy could keep track of that...

AFAIK - 25 years is the boggie to bring into the USA unless you are a foreigner coming in to travel or work for some predefined period of time and I think you have to take your vehicle out when you leave.

I am looking into this further however. As I would like to bring in a CMC Gen 3 4x4 Delica from Taiwan. They are LHD and most are 4D56T powered. Nailing down the actual start production years in Taiwan so far is seaming elusive. I believe a "new" Gen 3 can still be purchased.
