Project: modifying F350 front bumper for van

I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I kinda like the old chrome bumper - doesn't look so over the top aggressive. Maybe I got over all that being in the military for 21 years.
I’ve very few complaints with the chrome bumper and respect your perspective. The major limitation of chrome bumper is you can’t push anything with it, no tow points, and zero protection for lights/grill/hood.

Some days I have careless drivers cut us off, pull out in front of us too close, and turn right in front of us, it’s only a matter of time before there’s some contact. I have sympathy for ambulance drivers who have to put up with people doing stupid things all day long. It’s like a stock ambulance is invisible... and people don’t realize you’re supposed to give them space. My budget doesn’t permit for a car killer like Dave’s, nor my suspension tolerate the weight, but wouldn’t mind something that people are afraid of. :D

All done and satisfied with results. (Only did 3yrs in military so I still dig the look, lol)

We modified the original mounts and welded two 4x4 (3/16") 8" long tubing with new mounting plates.

Still need to mount my old M12000 and wire the 4 Rigid lights that came free with the bumper :)

Next, rear bumper with double swing outs...

Cheers

The day is coming that I’m going to have to replace my chrome bumper. It is rusting through from the inside, and in the not too distant future it’s going to impact its structural integrity…. or at least that’s what I’m telling myself. :)

Anyway, I came across this Iron Cross bumper for $100. It wasn’t designed for a Ford van so it’ll need some modifications.

Once I start cutting it apart I’ll have a better idea of how much it needs to be narrowed.
For $100, I couldn’t buy the steel to make a bumper.
I figure I’ll start by removing the stepped up ends, and then I’ll decide how I want to narrow it… it probably would benefit from loosing 3-4” off both ends.
