Pronghorn Tacoma bumper: This looks interesting!

First gen, and I like it. Utilitarian to the core. Also, made in MERKA! Looks? Pff, if it works it works. They really ought to double think that winching!

This is a cool idea.

However, in my book, function is only slightly a head of form. It needs to work first and foremost, but a very close second: it should look nice. This has potential, but they executed it poorly. It needs side wings, and the center is too short. It should extend down so the skid plate section blends in more cleanly.

The winch port is at a bad angle, but I have see other bumpers like that, so its not a first. With the modular design, that should be an easy fix.

I really like the concept though, and with further modifications, this could look pretty cool with the erector set look.

Hopefully they continue to work on it.

Gross. This reminds me of erector sets. Youd spend hours building a functional crane or something but in the end it always looked like crap. I think I like it more than the ARB bumper, but that doesnt say much.

I love this bumper! I spent way too much time at Overland Expo looking at this thing and was very impressed with the thought that went into it. For one, the modularity is very cool. The light weight is cool. The low placement of the winch to lower center of gravity is great. And, it looks like these bumpers are going to clear European crash standards. Sure, lots of plate bumpers have a finished look, but how many can say that they've been tested to not make your vehicle more dangerous in an accident?

And, I love the utilitarian design. Frankly, I think contemporary trucks look too refined and I love the exposed bolts of this bumper.

What do you mean by more dangerous? The ARB's have certainly prevented a lot of damage on my dad's truck the 2 accidents he's been in with one. It was still drivable after each one. Stock, it wouldn't have been.

I don't understand the "modular"concept. Are you gonna change it every month? What is the point? (unless you are a Mfg)
Why not just get or build a bumper that meets your needs? Once you have that, the modular "out of the box" thinking is useless and just looks like an afterthought. (at best.)
And, as for the "low CG" winch mount location, you must be joking. Unless your putting a winch on your canyon racer it is a solution to a problem that does not exist - I'll keep mine tucked
up out of harms way thank you.

I'm not joking, I'm sharing what I learned in my research. Don't be rude; we are all entitled to our opinions.

The idea of being modular seems useless. I've never looked at any bumper and thought "I'd really like to change this just for the weekend" and the price is sure to be excessive.

It's not so you can change it on a whim. It's so customers can order the parts they want to make the perfect bumper for their particular application. All around the same basic package. Or, they can start out with the base and add parts and functionality as the budget allows. Plus, it offers greater manufacturing and shipping efficiency.

It's a great concept. I'm a little underwhelmed by the execution though.

You could just design the perfect non erector set bumper for half the price and be done with it.
