Protect Camera From Water

So in a week or so I'm going to try a little fly fishing on the South Fork of the Boise with a friend of mine. We are going to be in Pontoon boats and I want to take my camera. I don't have a dry bag and am wondering if there is a cheap alternative to get me by for this trip. Gallon ziplock to the trick??

dry bags are pretty cheap anymore.. you can pick up a clear one for $20.. depending on the size, of course.

What type of camera? DSLR's are big and heavy and require something more substantial. Little point and shoot cameras are fine with a small ziploc.

But just remember one VERY important item: a waterproof container is wonderful, but it's useless if your camera sinks to the bottom of the lake inside of it. Ensure that the waterproof container you are using floats (like a Pelican case) or that you tie it off to yourself or boat.

I know about this brand new Blackberry about 40 feet down in a crystal clear mountain lake. All snug inside it's waterproof bag.

I would spend the $20 or so and buy a small dry-bag. Just buy a size that will allow you to close it up with enough air in it that it will float what ever you have inside. Thus avoiding a repeat of Pete's experience.

Actually that Blackberry isn't mine. It was another flyfisher on the lake that day.

When I'm fishing, my phone stays in the truck!

my camera is a Nikon L100 nothing to fancy but still don't want it trashed! I'll run to the local outfitter store and see what they have. Your right 20 bucks is pretty cheap insurance, assuming I don't drop the camera while i'm using it.
