And another option...

I saw that you were talking about cases and thought I'd drop a quick note on ours.

Our company is HPRC and we make premium hard cases designed in Italy.

We've got a great "trunk" case, the 2800W model that's 20% lighter with 1,000 cubic inches more space than the pelican equivalent size.

Check us out if interested (www.hprc-usa.com) - and don't miss out on the video section...

I just bought a Storm Case for my new laptop, The price was very good and it was a size that I could not find elsewhere.

I have been using Flambaeu products for years. They make a lot of bins and small parts organizers I use in the electronics buisness. I didn't know they made a case like that. If its like the other products I have used they are probably pretty good.

My concern is they almost sound like they are rotomolded or Blow molded and often that style of manufacture allows distortion over use.

The Pelican cases are injection molded and thats why they are so expensive. Big time expensive making injection molds of that size. Injection allows the use of a higher density plastic since you are able to keep the heat up during the process that resists distortion a LOT better then any of the material that are appropriate for rotomolding processes. The rotomold material must stay liquid for a long period of time so the density is rather low.

I have tons of pelican cases. I would like an alternative to them eventually because everytime I need a new or different case, it seems like they double in price every time....These other one you mention look pretty good. Are they available at any outdoor stores?

Speaking of storage cases... Do you guys know of a 'affordable' case that i could put my small bbq in? Buying a pelican seems a little out of hand.. for just a bbq.. but i want something that will snap shut better for up on my rack.

I use a folding tote thing from Home Depot right now. It's not the highest quality around if you know what i mean. It's big enough for my grill(with lid off), bag of charcoal and a couple propane tanks.

I use a smokey joe

I've had good luck sourcing (barely) used Storm cases, which are similar -and in some way, superior- to Pelican. They're made by Hardigg. I got a line on a couple of bigger ones to use with my trailer.

My new found friends.... not weather proof, but they are good for interior organization i think.

Action Packers are great. I've got a couple that I use for interior keeping of icky, sticky or gooey things. I also use one for food that I don't want to keep in the cooler and don't want smooshed. They're pretty durable, just don't crank on the ratchet strap too hard! And, besides, if you do, they're only like $17!:wings:

thumbs up on action packers...

i've got two of the 16" x 16" x 26" action packers side by side behind the front seats in our access cab. They work great. One is full of bug-out items and the other for our gold prospecting items. Here is a pic.

On the food side i'm leaning toward getting something more animal proof such as a bear canister or similar.

Happy trails,
Thom
