Do any of you have experience pulling a camper trailer or pop up off road with a montero? Also I use my montero to cart around a family of six on a regular basis but what ideas are out there to help on a back country trip with that many people? has anybody tried it? I figure an offroad type pop up would help with space but is the V6 up to the task offroad in a stock 3.5L 96' SR with 33's? My oldest kid is 9 and youngest 2 so they all fit fine but where to put the gear? We've done little day trips with the roof rack taking up the slack but I would like something longer. I need all three rows of seats so storage drawers are out. The factory trailer hitch looks wimpy at best do I need to upgrade for trailer? Any ideas for improvements would be greatly appreciated. I am new to this forum and really enjoy reading the different threads, it's great to see I'm not the only one who likes these trucks.

I have one child and two furry children that take up the entire back of my truck, same issue with nearly zero interior storage.

I ended up building a small trailer for our off road trips. So nice to be able to bring all the stuff, I kept it as small as possible, mine is just under 48" square, and light, my truck with a 4.0L v6 tows this very well.

Also towed this for awhile, it was a light weight trailer (@2800lbs dry and empty) my truck did not like pulling it much, and I would not take it on much more than a smoothish FS road. It was our winter rig.

I do not currently own a trailer so are there any make / models to look out for?

Do a bit of searching and reading and you will find this has all been covered/answered before.

Phil tows a small trailer around the Canadian hinterlands. His trailer is a single axle, fiberglass something.

Make sure your expectations don't surpass the capability of the proposed vehicle.

I have a 94 SR with 33s and I would have to say that it's a pig going up hills as is and even worse loaded. I would imagine with a trailer it would be pretty bad. I have a dune buggy in AZ that I want to bring back to L.A. but I am afraid it might not be up to the task of pulling it. I do have a beefy trailer upgrade so that is good. I'm doing a big trip here in a week fully loaded so I will see how it fairs.
