Putting down the Disco II

Well I've got to make the call on repairing or walking away from my 2000 Disco II. It really is kind of sad, it was the first truck I ever bought and got me started on my green oval obsession. The girlfriend put it in to an irrigation ditch a few weeks ago and the insurance hassle has finally given me a number. I just overhauled the engine in April and she was finally through most of the normal bugs for a DII and running like a champ with 126k on the clock. It was my second truck (more like old dog of the family, since purchase I've used it, my brother has, my parents had it for 2 years etc.). So do I take the money and run (way more then I expected) or do I put some cash forward and fix the old girl??

Take the money! Very rare that a Land Rover gives money back.

You know the old stat: 98% of all Land Rovers built are still on the road. The other 2% made it home.

What sort of damage did it sustain from the accident? (sorry if I missed a previous thread)...or was it totalled?

My thought is that if you buy another Disco, you'll be back to square one fixing the "normal bugs for a DII" and overhauling that engine too :Mechanic:

How much damage? I've been through totalling out two D2's. One i kept and fixed, the other one a Silver G4 i did not.

Where are you located?

The Toyota folk are like Jehovah's Witnesses in this forum! I'm not interested! Get off my property!

the damage is all front end no engine at all, but hood, bumper, lights etc. I've gone ahead and totaled it, it leaves on Thursday form Jackson Wy. Sad really its like putting down old yeller, expect it has wheels, and is black.

I don't think I'll be switching to a toyota, I got bitten by the rover bug and don't think I'll switch any time soon. (anyways my DD is a Land Rover :)

thanks for the advice folks.

Happy Holidays

Go buy an LR3 and not worry about having to sort anything out. Otherwise, go find another DII. My opinion, 02 or 04 are best years. I prefer the 02s personally. You can always swap out the engine for a 4.6, and transfer case for an 04 (with CDL). Or take the easier, reliable route and take my first suggestion.

Take the money and run. Use the money toward finding a new girlfriend, who doesn't ruin your coveted toys! :)

you can always take the money and buy it back from them. If it is too far gone, part it out for spares for your next. You know you'll need them.
