Hello fellow Expo Portal members!

Pyeatt Draw was listed as one of the 10 most scenic trails by BFG Tires. Since the article, trail use is very high. The trail is also very difficult. It would not surprise me that in time, some obstacles might receive names from various wheelers.

Scott Brady and myself will be co-leaders on this run. This run is going to be open to 10 vehicles only due to trail length and difficulty. Scott is also planning to submit the story, with pics to Off-Road Magazine. (Thanks Scott!) If you'd like to join us please post a thread along with the main modifications to your truck (lift, tire, etc). Scott or myself will respond with the OK to be added to the list. I know this "do you qualify bit" sounds "weird", however the trail really demands a modified vehicle for the run to be a success with this many vehicles. We don't plan on being out there for 10 hours in late November.

Because of the difficulty, here's what we're looking for in vehicle specs:

1. Suspension lift of 2" or greater (sorry, no stock vehicles)
2. Up-sized tires
3. At least a rear locker (though a front locker will certainly help)
4. Rock sliders (unless you have a unusually high-lifted vehicle)
5. One good spare tire

I've run Pyeatt Draw once. Some of my friends have been on it a few times. On each trip there's usually some type of carnage though none has been severe. We've seen or heard of bent rear driveshafts and/or control arms, flat tires, some minor scrapes or dings. The trail is full of ledges, large rocks, and sharp tire eaters. Some areas do not have bypasses.

Details:

DATE: Nov 18 (Saturday)

MEETING PLACE: Shoofly Ruins on Houston Mesa Road just NE or Payson
(AZ87 north toward Strawberry to Houston Mesa Road...turn right onto HMR...proceed about 4 miles to the large and paved parking lot on the east side of HMR)

MEETING TIME: 9:30 AM (pull out at 9:45)

TRIP DURATION: About 6 hours (if all goes well)

TRAIL RATING: Mostly a 3.5 to 3.5+ (we may bypass one 4.0-ish obstacle that has eaten many driveline parts)(if we don't bypass, you can bypass)(also...we will not be attempting the 4th section tat most rate a 4.5 to a 5 in difficulty)

BRUSH: Very little. Only in a few places.

Plan on cool or possibly cold weather. We'll watch this very closely as the date draws near. Come on out and bring friends (in your truck)!

APPROVED ATTENDEES:

1. Scott Brady (co-leader)
2004 Tacoma
(Scott states he might have a "new goodie" on his truck by then? Hmm? OK, let's not work him for info :ylsmoke: )

2. John Shotts (co-leader)
2001 UZJ100 Land Cruiser
(Yes, Roklimo is going. Two 100-series have attempted the run so far. Both sustained some damage, though in their defense they were not outfitted like mine (less lift, smaller tires, less protection, etc). This will be a greater challenge for me and the 100 than the Moab Trails I've run.)

3. Seth JS
2002 Tacoma

4. Goodtimes
Jeep Wrangler

5. Madd Baggins
1994 FZJ80 Land Cruiser ("Tortuga")

6. Baja Taco
Toyota Tacoma

7. McVick Off Road
Land Rover Discovery II

8. Boston Mangler...FZJ80
Land Cruiser

9. Crawler # 976
Upper Pyeatt designed vehicle

10. Doc Random (Randy Drwinga)
1997 Lexus LX450 S/C (Supercharged)

Waiting list:

1. Daktari Ed...FJ40
2. Open

Hi Seth. Your truck is up to the task for sure. WELCOME!

You guys should have fun. I went thru there last month on a CSC run. We had 15 vehicles of various capabilities and had a great time. There were some dents and scrapes on a few rigs and the sole 100 on this run did some body damage and bent both lower control arms.
I got hung up on a muddy ledge and candy-striped my rear DS. Couple of guys stacked a few rocks for me to get over. That was my last trip on 285's and no front locker.

You know what, put me down for this John. That is a beautiful trail.

I'll go, if my stock(ish) jeep will qualify ;) .

Well. I'll have to get with Scott about your truck. You could probably run the last 4.5 section. You might make things look too easy!

OK Brian. We'd luv to have ya! J

OK Alvin. We got ya.

We'll PROBABLY not run that last 30-minute section that has the driveshaft eating ledge. I know of 4 FZJ80's that messed up driveshafts on this climb.

I'd like to go on this one. I haven't been on this trail at all, so I'd just need a solid opinion on doing it with only 32" tires. John, you know my Taco and have recently done the trail, so I'd like your opinion. I have 2.75" susp. lift, locked front/rear, sliders, tube bumpers & rear 1/4 protection.

I'm in no financial situation for repairs right now, so I may be taking a lot of bypasses. I mainly just want to check out the trail.

Hey Chris! Oh yes....your Taco is up for this. Besides...who'd shoot the video from a moving rig? Glad you're coming!

John, Scott,

If there is still room left as the date gets closer, I'll see if I can get the '87 Toy P/U beater there. That's a long drive tho...things tend to get a "bit" warm on long highway runs.

7" lift

Dual t'cases

exocage/flatbed/sliders all welded together

spool x 2

Another reason we're limiting the group size. We want to make sure everyone is not rushed and has FUNNNNNNN! Dang....you got no worries. If I believe my 100 boat can make it OK you Taco-dues are set!

Oh boy. So far all Taco's. Will we have fun with Goodtimes!

What do you think about a DII with 2"-3" of lift with 265/75s, rock sliders, diff guards, winch and a Center Locking Diff with Traction Control?

Scott knows my rig and John you know DIIs well, so go ahead and be honest!:costumed-smiley-007

10-4 Crawler. Though I don't think we'd approve you. Not modified enough! :hehe:
