i wanted to get rid of some emissions crap from my 88 burban with the tbi 350 (stock tbi not vortec) and wanted to remove the BELT for the air pump so it wont operate and i dont worry about plugs, then get a straight pipe in place of the cat converter.- im wondering if this will cuase any problems? o2 sesor IS before the cat i did check.

technically illegal from a federal law standpoint. You can remove the entire air pump and unhook the hose running to it along with the cat for off highway use only I believe without any issues ;) If the cats not plugged it's not hurting anything and running one isn't costing you any HP or mileage.

^^^what he said.

yep, if the cat isn't plugged or rattling, save the time and money and leave it in there. it won't hurt anything to remove the entire air pump.

I remove my cat(I thought it was bad) i saw no improvement in power or mpg. My truck did not come with AIR. but I doubt it is hurting except for maybe 2-3 Hp to turn the pump, you could remove the belt and drive it for a month to see if you get any improvement.
