Superu- D2's are so inexpensive right now because they can be very problematic as was stated earlier, I agree you would be better off with less headache and a little more money in your pocket if you just got a minivan.

Sooooo my request to you is do yourself a favor, do us all a favor, and find a way to be nice when you talk to people. We don't want a Discoweb or a EE like format - try to be more cerebral in your posts and less emotional.

Isn't that request just a tad oxymoronic? On one hand you are asking him to be nice (being nice is emotional) and on the other you are asking him to be cerebral (devoid of emotion).

I request that you take a bit of your own medicine and not be so emotional and spend more time discussing the topic at hand rather than go into lengthy Rodney King-esque diatribes about all of us getting along.

Sorry you are having to endure this....back to the point of your question.

I think the '04 is by far the most advanced of all of the discos. It has a few more electronics and wizardry, but it is the same basic truck. I would suggest getting one for your bride, let her try it out and then if she doesnt like it you can take it and get her another van later. It's like a silver lining except you will find yourself hoping she doesnt like it, but she will....these trucks have been getting groceries and hauling kids to football(soccer) games well before most of us were walking. So I say go for it!!! Just use your good sense and find a good one that hasn't been abused. If you can find one with under 50,000 miles, purchase the extended warranty for peace of mind.

Is that a Buick eccentricity? In other vehicles (like my bulletproof VW 8v), we can get away with lower octane stuff with no noticeable problems. Don't remember where I heard it, some vehicles really prefer premium...

Not true really, Just has to do with owner preference. I haven't put Premium in my truck in a couple of years. Half the mechanic's at LRNP in the Atlanta area don't do it. In my honest opinion, (rookie at best :sombrero:), it comes down to the performance side of things. Since I don't tow, or really care about the performance, I do mid-grade.

During the gas shortage we had I put regular in it after a couple of the LR mechanics assured me it would fine. I would put that in there regularly if it didn't sound like a wrench was loose inside there!

I will agree with the injector cleaner though, I use lucas time to time for peace of mind.

No, it's just incredibly poor combustion chamber design.

The engine is protected by a knock sensor, so you can "safely" run regular fuel. It will retard the timing to prevent detonation. However, it seems this results in incomplete combustion, which can leave damaging carbon deposits.

It's funny, because the experienced guys who should know exactly what's going on, disagree about the result. Some say it's fine, others not... I haven't been tempted to risk my engine to find out myself. I have run mine a few times on regular out of necessity, and it's fine, other than fuel economy TANKED so running regular fuel is a complete false economy. You save 5% on the price of fuel, but burn 25% more of it.

Yes. In my experience with running regular fuel it sounded quite different. Keep in mind though, I knew it was regular fuel and I was looking for something to be different/wrong because I was worried about it. It's not a must to put premium, but if you have the money, it couldn't hurt :coffee:

i ran regular for 6 months. granted, i only drive on the weekends, and walk or ride my bike on the weekdays, but i did not notice any ill effects other than a slight decrease in economy (which is negligible to my truck anyways). i now run premium or mid-grade. usually mid grade because i am too cheap to ALWAYS use premium.

IMO, there's not really a difference a noticeable difference in rovers.

however, seafoam every few tanks is always a good idea.

Isn't that a false economy also? I never/rarely put additives in any of my engines. I just run better fuel.

it can never hurt to clean your injectors. no matter what fuel your running. you could still get "bad" premium, depending on where you get your gas from. i seafoam maybe once every two months. no issues so far.
