questions for a potential overland Tacoma build

Those wildernests are bad ***!! That would be the best and most economical option for me. And I'm like you, my bike doesnt come everywhere I go when camping. What does one of those things weigh by chance?

Heard they are around 250lbs.

Dirt biking is my main hobby...more I have to spend on the truck, the less I have to spend on the bikes. ;)

What got me into the Wildernest, Flippac, etc...is that I hate putting up tents and sleeping on the ground. It is like the best of both worlds...it is tent that setups super quick, yet no sleeping on the ground. ...and really all of them are glorified tents...me being the cheap SOB that I am, can't see spending $10,000 on one. If I am going to do that I would get a shell All Terrain Camper or Four Wheel Camper...and have a hard roof.

Shell ATC is a little cheaper than a Habitat. That is if you want windows in a Habitat...I priced it out is a hair over $10K.

Yea, moto is my main fix too. Currently selling my 11' 250/300xc if you know anyone :D. Scrolling through threads last night I saw Speed Freak's handle come up on a build. Jason is a riding buddy of mine so I gave him a call and we went over some things I need to do to my truck. I gotta give this truck a clean bill of health before I go any further. Need new front axles and a new lift kit to replace my sacked out suspension. And a cheap paint job too. Then I'll be able to tackle this portion. So I'm probably a few months away

You shouldn't have any problem getting rid of that KTM. I'll put the word out for ya though, live in Idaho now, but most of my riding buddies are in AZ, do have a couple in CA.

Have an '11 Gas Gas 300, currently doing a new top/bottom end, freshening up the suspension, new final drive, clutch, reeds...getting ready for riding season.

Within the last 3 years, I have rebuilt the whole under carriage of the Tacoma, suspension, axles, ball joints, fresh rear 3rd member, clutch, driveshaft, new fuel pump...bunch of other little stuff. Cheaper than buying a new one.

Had a Wildernest before for 6 or so years and sold it...kicked myself for doing that...have been casually looking over the last couple years, got lucky over last summer, and found one 2 hours North of me. While they aren't perfect... it was cheap, does everything the much more expensive Habitat does. Not knocking the Habitat...looks really cool, don't want to spend that much.

If you find a Flip Pac...Sway-a-Way is making new torsion bars for it, if that hasn't been said (I kinda skimmed the posts)

https://swayaway.com/product/flip-pac-torsion-bar/

So with torsion bars and a place that can sew up a new tent available. I would look for either a Flip Pac or a Wildernest, if you're looking to save some money.
