Questions... Off Road Teardrop or Off Road Tent Top???

I still have not purchased the AC. Really no need for it for another 4-5 months. I am trying decide whether to make it or a Propex propane heater the standard feature, and the other an option. Also looking at Baja Racks to see one can be used.

I am looking at making on outside tent room for additional sleeping space. I have no need for it, but customers may. I can do a rack with out AC as you have stated. But my trailer has a lot of area around it to tie things down, it serves as that and and a rock rail to protect the trailer.

The Honda generators really get great fuel economy. I use mine for solar tower back up. I have had them run for 13 hours on a gallon of gas, pretty amazing to say the least.

I have slept well in high heat/low humidity environments, especially when a breeze can be captured. But in a high humidity enviroment, when the temps soar the sleeping is a sweaty miserable deal, and a hot, humid breeze doesn't help much. Seems to me that what should guide your decision is where your clients are most likely to be from and the climate most likely to be encounted when using the trailer.

I didn't look, but does the Cub have a heat option? That might favor the Cub over the Propex. My A/C unit is A/C only, but some are heat pumps. {Edit: Checked and the Cub has a heat element option, but that would be an electric element.}

Good news on the Hondas. I have used them, but not a lot. Quiet too.

Forget the teardrop and the usual off road trailer with RTT I finally got my wife to camp in this and in comfort.

Looks like a good option, can you give more details on it?

The cost on both actually figure out to the same.

I really have no need for the roof top air. Not a desert person, like the mountains and normaly camp above 10K feet. The heater becomes almost a necessity. Still have not put one in yet, slept in it at Pismo for surf and turf and it was 37 degrees, wind blowing near 40MPH 100 feet from the ocean and raining cats and dogs. Was toasty warm and dray. But at 10,000 feet things can change quickly.

I will just make them an option, one covered under base price the opposite a paid addition. Then they make their choice.

Did you see the vidio of my trailer, it is in the build thread. You will see no flat desert trails with the roughest obstacle a loose tumble weed. This is what my trailer is designed to do on a daily basis. Real trails, not imaginary off grid camping with your wine glasses and cheese. Where you are the delicacy on the menu. Real off roading at altitude, over rocks, trees and what ever might be in the way.

I saw the photos on your build thread. Great photos, btw. No matter where you travel and how capable your trailer is for getting where you want to go you brought it to sleep in. For you personally, that might mean cool or even frigid mountains, but then some of your customers may like Moab in August, or anywhere in the summer in the South West mountains and desert, or perhaps here on the East Coast, where high temps and high humidity can spell miserable nights even on top of mountains.

And then there are those situations where an owner may be traveling from, say, California to Colorado to spend some time around Ouray or, say, traveling to Wyoming from SLC and while temps at either end are comfortable, there can be real heat (or cold) between.

Or a personal concern of mine, leaving the Washington DC area in the summer in my Jeep, pulling my trailer and traveling across the country to reach the Rockies, or the Pacific NW, Maob or wherever, only having to stay in motels along the way because its hot as hell and/or humid as hell through most of the trip.

That is why it is an option for either. Neither one are a standard for the competition and I am still thousands of dollars under theirs.

It will be the customers choice. Air standard, pay for the heater, Heater standard, pay for the air. I think that is the only fair way to do it. I can not put both in and keep the base price where it is. I want to keep the base price reasonable, and give them almost every creature comfort available to them in that price range.

Most campers rarely use their trailers in the winter it seems. I really do not know what I would pick if it were me.

I chose both for my trailer. I didn't want to limit use to three seasons, whichever three they were. I hunt a lot and would like to expand my opportunities.

A logical choice would be the Cub and the optional heater element. Skip the Propex. But you would probably need the generator to make the current required for the electic heating element to make heat for any length of time. )Or plug in if the camo site is "improved."

Here are some more of JPK's trailer. This beast is truly awesome, believe me a Teardrop beats a RTT any day. So quiet at night, insulated, protected from wolves, mountain lions and other wild animals (ask me how I know).

When we rented the Silver Shadow (had to see if we liked a teardrop before bulding one!) we used (and will use with ours) a FirstUp gazebo. Worked very well setting it up just on the open hatch lid.

I think that is where I am headed on mine. Was looking for someone to build a set up specifically for it, but really not having any luck on that yet.

I have several popups with sides, I would like to have one that fit the trailer for the driver side door on the next trailer though.
