QuickPitch Weathershade Awning & Yakima HD Crossbars

I currently have the Yakima Overhauld Hd bedrack with their HD crossbars & a rhino rack batwin awning on the back of my F150
I like the bedrack, but the awning is a PITA because:
1) its not freestanding
2) the plastic hinge is prone to breaking even if there is no wind.

so im considering selling my current awning and buying a quickpitch awning. The quickpitch is freestanding and provides the same coverage as my rhino rack. Ive thought about other brands but im looking for a big awning.
Does anyone have any experience with the quickpitch weathershade awning amd could you please post a picture of your brackets

The nearest dealer told me i might need to get some custom brackets fabricated and i dont mind but if i can avoid the hassle it would be great

I don't have a QP awning so can't comment one way or the other on that. But I do have a RR Batwing and have also been critical of the hinges. First time out on the Mojave Rd a surprise dust devil "origamied" the awning seconds after I had deployed it...legs down but not yet secured. The repair, later at home, was so simple I'm convinced that a field repair would be possible. Still, I was convinced I wanted a different awning, a 270* "true" freestanding awning, even at the very high prices I was seeing.

After watching Paul May on one of his Equipt videos, I'm not rushing out to get another...just yet. He sells the very nice and sturdy Eezi-Awn which has been touted as freestanding, but he strongly advocates the use of the poles to help support the arms. You might want to check out his video(s) on the Equipt1 website. I'm not trying to convince you to keep your RR, but I am suggesting that freestanding may be an overused and overpromised feature. For now, I'm going to hang onto the RR and explore how best to anchor the arms in different situations...soil, sand, asphalt, etc.

As always, YMMV.
