Quigley E250 donor under a 2wd diesel E350?

Iv found allot of low priced quigley E250's with 5.3's and 5.8's. Iv also found a few 2wd E350's with diesels reasonably priced as well.. I could buy both for $5k

Has anyone, or what would it take to remove the dana 44 off a underpowered quigley E250 and install in under a E350 diesel? Is it worthwhile? How about the transfer case?

Thanks.

I'd be worried about the GAWR of a Dana 44 (3500 lbs) when asked to hold up a diesel. I'd bet a typical 2wd diesel van has more than that on the front axle, empty, before adding the extra weight of transfer case, driveshaft, etc.

You'd be better off buying the E350 and sourcing the axle and other bits elsewhere.

Im sure the van would be better off but I would be poorer. I think it would cost allot more than $3k to source the axle and other bits. Let alone the extra parts from the donor e250

I have a similar question: What are thoughts on using an old Pathfinder 4x4 conversion on a 1980 E250 and installing on a 1995 E350 to convert it to 4x4? Is this even a remote possibility?

Thanks,

Thanks,

Sure, its possible but not worth it. The Pathfinder suspension was never very good, and you're dealing with 2 different van chassis.

Thanks,

Depends on how much time you have.. These older 4x4 vans can be bought for cheap, but then your stuck with that year suspension. depending on the transmission, you may need a new Tcase. If you luck out and find the same trans in both your in luck and Id go for it if you can get it cheap.

FWIW, my 2001 E350 with the 7.3 weighed 3750 on the front axle, empty. That was after a 4x4 conversion that used a super duty axle. GAWR on the front axle as read from the nameplate was 4050.

I think a D44 would be fine under a gas engine but not diesel. My cummins alone weighs over 1000 lbs so I'm not even considering a D44.

Since my last post on this thread, Iv bought a 1995 E350 with NV4500 and 6bt.

If I found a Quigley donor with D60, which years would pretty much bolt right up to my 1995? I sure like the smooth ride of the stock coils with the cummins on them and I'm reluctant to consider leafs.

Still don't know if its worth it since I could only use the front end. T-case etc wouldn't work

Get the diesel van and an f350 donor. I see gasser parts trucks with the kp60 for like 2k all the time. Part the rest then scrap and be doing way better than the quigley scenario. Perhaps not as plug n play though I suppose.

Yes I agree.

Problem I have is I'm a city dweller and already have four cars and three motorcycles on this property.. I'm not sure how the city would feel about me parting out a truck from this property.

Im still kicking myself for letting a $2k running cummins 4x4 go because I didn't have the space..

why not just use the control arms / panhard bar from the Quigley and modify the axle brackets to accept a d60? not sure if there is enough meat for a bigger axle tube but definitely worth looking at...
