Rack Mounted Switch?

I am going to be mounting some work lights onto the rear of my 80's bajarack. I want to have them wired hot with switches (toggle or ? ) mounted on the rack so they can be easily turned on and off when camping. I am looking for ideas on mounting and also what switches others have used in this type of setup? Using a simple toggle from the parts store seems not appropriate and will be susceptible to corrosion.

basically looking for a switch that is sealed from the weather that can be mounted flat to a surface or a cross round bar with 2 small screws. Basically a boxed switch with attachment tabs?

Thanks!

yes...Using a simple toggle from the parts store seems also to me not good also the attachments depends upon on which type of mounting are you going to use? can you specify?

Are you opposed to using lights that have switches built in? It would require flipping a switch for each light, but would alleviate any problems with the switch being exposed. There is a pretty good variety of 12V tractor/flood/work lights that have the switches built into the housing. A quick ebay search for "switched 12V work light" turned up a good number of solutions.

What about mounting the switch at the rear of the cargo area inside? After time any switch is going to get beat up outside.

I would mount a plate with a marine toggle switch - booted on the front and sealed on the back. Shrink wrap connectors with adhesive shrink wrap.

:sombrero: I have rear lights set up in my sPOD (internal) system and use lanterns/external DC lights for camping-

Never needed or wanted the vehicle rear lights for camping--a lotta times on trail and/w trailer setup though !

thx for the responses guys, figured out a neat idea, going to use some led work lights in conjunction with some big harbar freight magnets and wire it to a dc plug, instant magnetic work light! should work exactly the way I want it to.

Good idea. I made up a similar light(halogen instead of LED) a few years ago and it works great. With the LED you can get away with using the cigarette plug which will have significantly less draw than a halogen light. I ended up putting little battery clamps on mine because it was drawing too many amps for a cigarette plug.
