Radflo suspension for 3rd gen montero

Has anyone on here used the radflo suspension on their 3rd gen Montero?

http://www.radflo.com/store/product/mitsubishi-montero-pajero-perforomance-suspension-system/

I think this would be really cool on the montero and may truly give some level of Dakar performance and the ability to haul *** off road. The down side is the cost and the fact you would still need rear springs to match the front lift....

Lots of good reviews with the LC crowd and others but nothing specific to monteros.

After Christmas I'm going to be getting either the OME kit or this for the montero. Just trying to decide if the performance is worth probably double the cost!!!

This is by far the fastest production vehicle i have ever driven off road, but dreaming how nice it could be with some race level suspension is tempting.

On a side note do most people with lifts run wheel spacers to compensate for the decreased width from the control arms lower in their arc?

Bump...Anyone have direct experience with king or radflo on a montero and how it rides on higher speed off-road?

I'm a little concerned with the fact they are 2.0 vs 2.5 shocks. Not sure if the montero is too big for the 2.0.

Radflo has 10% off through Monday so I want to pull the trigger.

Looking for that thing i just had in my hand...
Radflo and King are going to be next level **** on your Montero, can you handle that? If you're going to use them regularly go King if you want to be flashy and say you have racing shocks go Radflo. Both are great but the Kings are superior professional grade stuff.

LOL if I go that route Im sure Ill manage.

Im going to call King tomorrow, but I expect them to be well outside what Im willing to pay so Im sure it will be radflo or OME. The question is will the 2.0s be ok? There are plenty of 2.0 kits out for land cruisers, 4runners, etc, etc but everything I have read (including on radflo site) says that the 2.5 really provides more performance for larger vehicles off road. Im not even sure radflo offers 2.5s for the montero, but if its 100-200 more Id go that route. If its only the 2.0 Im still not sure what to do? I don't want to pay a premium for a shock that is too small from the get go.....ugh......

So no one here other than montypower has ever run anything similar to kings or radflo on a montero???

Id love to know how they ride and how much faster you can push the truck off road:smiley_drive:

Considering stock shocks and even the upgrade units are little nothings compared to any of the racing shocks the 2.0's will do the job nicely. I am running Rancho Pro 9000 with remote reservoirs, these are basically the cheapest lowest performing not even near race level shocks and they are awesome. So i imagine real racing shocks will be a pretty spectacular upgrade, i plan to go to Bilstein 7100 or Fox 2.0 next for rebuildability. Unless i find a killer deal on some rebuilt Kings i try to keep it cheap but i also appreciate performance enhancing modifications.

Those Radflo shocks even come with coil springs, I'm willing to bet they are a billion times better than OME shocks. 2.0 designed for your rig, sounds like a really good idea.

Well bummer Radflo does not offer their kit any more. I called King and its pricey....1500 for the front and 780 for the back (no back springs).

I'd love to do it but I think thats more than I should pay.

I'm Getting Around To It
Ryan Yantzer (on Facebook) or, I think, RyanY on here, is the fastest Gen 2 guy I've ever driven behind on our roads in AZ. He's got an OME suspension, vs. my stock with KYB gas-a-justs. I drive pretty aggressively on trails where I have visibility and he just smokes me. A good part of that is his skill, no doubt, a good portion can be attributed to huevos, and I'm sure the suspension plays a part. Not that it helps you in a Gen 3, but I know he's pretty happy with what he's got.

Adventure Time!
I saw your build with the kings (cool rig) how much better was the ride? Was it worth it?

King ride similar to stock on road. More control, less body sway/motion. Off road they are incredible. If you like driving 45mph or faster especially. You can catch air and won't even know it. Extremely smooth and not jarring. I've run OME shocks, Donahoe Racing (before they became Icon) and 2 sets of Icons on different rigs. My current truck can catch air with 2,000lb camper, no drama. It's all about having springs/shocks designed for the weight and type of driving you do. The new Icons are sweet with adjustable valving (external adjuster).

I think they are a massive bargain for what you get. I'd debated having custom shocks made and that would easily cost 5x as much. To have shocks/springs pre-tuned by King for the Montero is incredible. Just can't believe I'm the only person in the USA that owned them.

that old adage...if you have the means, by all means.

FWIW I am a bit of a suspension dork, which is to say that I know my way around a shim stack and a shock dyno, and have driven a number of rally cars with DMS 50mm Rally Struts and Ohlins Group N stuff. The difference between something like a King or DMS strut is just extraordinary compared to Bilstein HD/Springs, which is a great cost effective upgrade for many rallyists The level of car control and adjustability to suit different terrain and driving styles is just incredible. If I had the funds I would do King in a heart beat.

That said, my KYB GAJ's with fresh hardware, combined with "cutting board" strut spacers (10mm UHMW) in the front and TJM 20mm FJ80 spacers in the rear have proven to be an extremely capable and cost effective arrangement. With this setup and fresh KO2's the Montero is easily and comfortably capable of reaching speeds on the roads around Moab that have me thinking "cage". I can only imagine the "red mist" that would descend if I had a King setup. IMO adding the correct spec OME or King(AUS) springs would probably be sufficient for most folks, with Bilstein's being the Stage II upgrade.

I think the real question is whether you want to invest 33-50% of the truck's value in it's suspension. My .02. Then again, YOLO:smiley_drive:

Don't tease me! I'd be lying if I said I wasn't tempted to just say **** it and go all in. But MoabRefugee makes some good points and in the end I got the Montero over a land cruiser because I could not afford the LC. So Im sure that means I can't afford $2500 just for shocks.......

O well. OME here I come, LOL
